Updating Power Commander Firmware

Thanks to DBS_ESQ for bringing this to the surface again.
I think the last time this came up was 4 years ago.
IF you have an old enough PC3usb such that the most current version of the Power Commander software is incompatible with the PC3's "Firmware", then you must update the "Firmware" of the PC3.
BUT, to update the Power Commander "Firmware", you must have a Dynojet PCPROG device to be fitted between the PC and the laptop.
The PCPROG device is what allows the Dynojet website downloadable Firmware Updates to be sent to, and incorporated by, the PC3 unit.
The Dropbox has been updated to provide more info on this.
Go to WT_Shared/919/Power Commander Files/McRomo44 Compilation/2 Updating.
The newly added info therein, is a picture of what the PCPROG looks like, i.e. the item in the picture labelled as 61229103.
(The details of what to do are in the already there pdf file called "Updating".)
Few shops have a PCPROG.
I'll bet lots don't even know about it.
I'd hope that any Dynojet equipped shop would be aware of the PCPROG and have one.
Few individuals can justify buying a PCPROG for just their own needs. (I think a PCPROG would be an ideal stocking stuffer for me this Christmas, and will mention this to my dear sweet wife)
Dynojet will do Firmware updates for you, but it does mean sending your PC unit to them.
Regards,
McTavish McRomo

Yeah I'm sending mine back to Dynojet to have this done, which will unfortunately mean taking the thing back out again and a $40 charge. I asked them if they could send me to a local shop that has a PCPROG but they wouldn't tell me. Before I send it, I'm going to call to some local shops and see if any are within riding distance.

Update:

I called around to see if I could get a local shop to simply update the firmware for me and was unable to find anyone who would do it for less than $150. I understand they need to make money too, but that was a little extreme. While I was going to ship the PC3 back to PC, I figured that avoiding the pain in the ass of removal and then reinstall was worth the cost of the PC Prog.

So, I've bought a PC Prog from Power Commander and will be using it to update the firmware. Afterwords, I'll make the PC Prog available to anyone who needs it free of charge, you just cover shipping costs. I'll set up another thread once I get it so that we can get this set up for anyone that needs it. If you've got one of the older PC3s, it might be worth it to check out your firmware version and see if you need to upgrade.

I think the final destination of the PC Prog should be stuffed in McTavish McRomo's stocking.

I appreciate the suggestion, but seeing as my stocking got a PC PROG put in it, the device should be held 'States side in your hands.

Just thought I'd offer since the exchange rate is so bad these days haha.

Once I get the PC PROG and use it on my PC3, I'll set up a thread for anyone that needs its services.

Very cool!

Warning, if you have the base version or the next one up, you must upgrade the firmware to the next 2 versions individually before upgrading to the firmware that let's you skip several versions.

That's how I bricked my pc. Luckily the tuner was able to unbrick it after a 1 hour phone call to pc tech support.

Thanks for the tip PV. I'll make sure to go one version at a time just to be safe.

Ok, so the PC PROG has arrived and, per PV's advice, I'm going to upgrade the firmware one version at a time, just to be safe. Unfortunately...my laptop doesn't have a CD drive haha. So, I'm just gonna have to borrow the parents old computer and go from there. I'll let you know how the update goes and then we can talk shipping to anyone who needs it.
