Tumbler Removal

Is it possible to remove the key tumbler in a 2006 599 gas cap?

I looked at it and couldn't see how it could be done.

Just wondering as I found another stock gas cap that I want, but I don't want a different key than my ignition.

I have done it to my 919. U have to dissassemble the cap, there is a backing ring and a few other samll parts. Once you get the ttumbler out you can slide the "key ways" out and it will be universal.

That is cool!
I just ordered a gold CBR gas cap.
When it comes in, I will try to get the tumbler out of it before I do my current one.

I've got it down to a science now, can do it in about 10 minutes.

Lift the rubber seal ring under the cap. Take out the metal ring. You'll see three screws underneath that.

Take those out. SLOWLY, remove the top and pay attention to where all the little parts go.

Once at this point, push on the metal ring under the cap while fidgeting with the key. Key and tumblers come right out.

Reverse process on new cap.
