Rising of the Phoenix! The Jean Gray build - PIC HEAVY!!

So..... It's about time to start a proper build thread for my CB919 project bike.
Finally got my replacement frame yesterday. So being off this week I started to bolt some of the bits on it.
Most of you guys have seen the project/parts bike I bought in the fall. It was a grey 02 9er the had be crashed very hard.
I had hopes of reusing as many parts as possible and building up what was still good.
As it turned out very little was good on the bike.
Frame was bent, so was the swing arm. The tank was toast. No head lights or hand controls. Bars where shot. Motor may have been saveable but I parted it and bought a used one with 14000klm on it. Did a wheel swap to cbr/vfr wheels as the org where far from round.
I have been very lucky with getting parts for this and had so much help from great members of this site. Can't begin to tell you all how much it means to me.

I spent $600 on the parts bike and took all the good off it I could. Then spent a ton of money buying parts like a crack head at a rock concert!! Lol
I'm around $3000 total into the build with some goodies instead of all stock stuff.

Here are some before pics and a few of the assembly today.
I still need cbr f3 brakes rotors and some small nuts and bolts. But they will be easy finds.
After the engine is running(end of the week) I will begin to tear it back down to do a lot of powder coating. Bought an Eastwood PC set up just for this project.
So there will be a ton more pics to come of the anti bling(saint black) PC and some sick metallic white wheels. Doing a jdm style cb400 paint job keeping the factory red and adding white and black stripes. So stay tuned.....

Keith

Sweet! That's gotta be pretty cool to start with a frame and turn it into a working bike. I hope the rest is smooth sailing.

Thanks guys. It has been a lot of fun bring her back. What do you guys think for final colours?

These are the two jdm paint jobs I like the most. I'm also liking the gold wheels but love white wheels. HELP!!

So mainly white bike with the red accents(first jdm pic) and white wheels? That's the way I'm leaning. I really like the white on white bike look. I think I'm also going to run the new stick on round small honda logo instead of the big wings on the tank.
If I do the white on white the bike will be going satin white pearl - my favourite Subaru colour!!

My vote goes for gold wheels, it'll look great with the red/white/blue scheme.

That's fucking sweet!! Now I know that's HRC colours but I'd replace the blue with black and maybe ditch the centre stripes. Now I'm thinking a red front wheel and a white back wheel. Or white wheels and a red fender. I'd also stick to the usdm metallic red that the tank and tail already are and do the white top layer.

I think it would look awesome to use the first jdm paint scheme, but swap the red and white around, then use both white wheels. That would look sick!
Edit:
Come to think of it, I bet the second jdm scheme would look good done the same way, swap the red and white around.

This gets my vote. Maybe with a classic tank decal and bringing the tank scallop forward a touch.

That's what I always wanted to do only with the blue instead of the red

Yup another good deal from SuperDave! He has a set of VFR rotors for me too. He's a great guy to deal with and nice buying Canadian parts. One little tiny scuff in the tail and fender is near mint.

Every time I leave for a job I seem to come home to parts. The payoff for hard days!

Still not running yet but it's full of oil and coolant and waiting for a new fuel pump to arrive. Stupid old fuel pump!!

MrT81 I did get another tail. It's mint and was a package deal with the red front fender.

BIG NEWS!!

I have a runner! I tried to start the bike about two weeks ago. But it has no fuel pump prime. after online trouble shooting with "my tech" Helimech the fuel pump was confirmed dead.
Ordered a $50 eBay fuel pump from Cali And got it Christmas Eve. So like any kid I wanted to play with my new toy. So off to the garage I went and after 20 mins had a running cb919. Only used a small amount of gas. Primed the fuel pump a few times and hit the button. If came to life with a few groans as I woke the old girl up after a three year sleep. Started 4th try of the button. No choke.

Ran it again today cause it warm enough to have the garage door open. Let it run for about 20 mins and it was fine. No leaks. Only problem is the fan is jammed up on the bent rad from the donor bike. So over the winter a new rad will be needed. That lead to a heating issues as it can't cool itself as off now. But an easy fix.

Teaser pic

Video to come!
