All, in my ongoing quest to replace every piece of my 02 919, I've been looking at the regulator. The lights surge in rough correspondence with the engine, which I know can be a sign of regulators letting through some AC instead of making nice DC. The bike's also been good at killing batteries, though I think some of that was dodgy wiring. She also has a tendency to gasp a bit at idle. Does it make sense to pull the reg, or are these fairly good signs of a struggling stock reg? I've got a multimeter and I'm used to taking the bike apart, so testing it wouldn't be hard.
