Midpipe swap

I have been searching and have found very little on the subject. I have been wanting to do the 900rr exhaust swap on my 9er, but then I had an idea. Why not just get a different mid pipe? I have very little knowledge of exhaust systems and this might just be near full retard.

Can this be done cheaper than getting the full 900rr exhaust system?

you would have to make a custom mid pipe to do a low mount. and you would probably have to cut the stock header as well as it makes a 90* up into the swingarm.
