Kickstand safety switch

As anyone had this fail at highway speed? My bike just died and then wouldn't start fuel pump would run but not start. After pushing it to the nearest house and calling a friend with a truck she fired right up!?!? I'm assuming now that putting the stand up and down made it fix itself. I'm going to use some contact cleaner on it. If that doesn't work is that switch normally open or normally closed? so I know how to bypass it. Thank in advance my first thought was something came apart internally not that I don't trust my mechanic skills but I didn't get to ride too much after having her apart last year.

It probably creates an open when in the down position. Just cut the wires and twist them together you'll know right away if it works. Or better yet, just put a jumper wire in the plug end for a temporary test.

Thanks from the looks of where the wires go I've gotta take half the bike apart to get to the plug lol think I'm going to try to get to the plug and in plug it if it starts cool if not jump it
But now she fires right off every time wondering if I've got a coil getting hot and killing spark? Oh the possibilities I don't want to spend another summer looking at her in the garage

Side cover and air box lid unplug and she runs so now the switch is out of the equation we'll see what tomorrow brings

Ok so I was wrong it'll start but as soon as I it it on gear it dies so the switch completes the circuit Stand up doesn't ground out the ignition stand down
Too me that's stupid but I'm no engineer lol

The more I run through in my head how the bike acted right before shut down I'm thinking I've definitely got a bad coil. As I accelerated it sounded like it hit the rev limiter so I'm going to lift the tank start her up wait for her to die then check for spark. Since the probes on my multi meter won't reach into the plug wire ports on the coils

Ok so what are the odds both coils are bad at the same time? Now I'm thinking it may be something else. She fired right up after sitting over night ran for 15-20 min on center stand then died I pulled #4 first put a plug in the boot zero spark same with #1&2 didn't pull #3 for obvious reasons . Anyone got anything? I didn't get to ride much last year because of the broken valve spring and waiting on parts I'd really like to put some miles on this year!

There is a open small two wire plug in the tail section. Jumper the terminals with a piece of wire .... then turn on the ignition & the light will flash a code.

No worries man .... I'll get you some coil wiring info tonight as well. I also have a two extra set of 919 coils in the parts bin if you need some.

Its the same as a old school OBD-0 car. Long dash - first number .... short dash - second number. That's a lot of codes!

Coil info .....

Aft side frame mounted coil feeds cylinder #2 & #3.

Fwd under frame mounted coil feeds cylinder #1 & #4.

The small gauge trigger wires are the same on both. Black wire goes to spade terminal with black base. Colored wire goes to spade terminal with green base.

I just got my 919 out of storage and back in the garage tonight. I'll be in the shop going through it tonight .... and I'll have my FSM handy if you need any other info.

BTW I spliced my coil harness last winter so pay no mind to the colored heat shrink.

And I just noticed a chaffed cable .... hmmmm shitty.

So the ECU only supports twenty codes in total ... numbered #1 through #20 found on pages 5-10 & 5-11.

I would try to read them again and let it run through the flashes for a bit. Eventually you will start to see a pattern .... then start your count and see what codes you come up with.

Long 1.3 second dash = first number
Short 0.5 second dashes = second number

Do you have a PC3 installed?

If so check for loose connections or cracked wires ... I have seen the power/ground & TPS wires crack near the base where they branch of the main bundle.

No programmer the injectors all share a plug but everything else is separate but it was all unhooked when I pulled the top end off last summer/fall think I'm going to disconnect the battery to try to clear the computer all connections seam clean and free of cracked wires

Yes that would be bad. Be sure to measure it again at a separate time to verify. Ya know, measure twice, cut once. Hopefully this fixes your problem!
Keep us posted.

After letting her sit and checking again I get 1.2-1.4 volts so I'm thinking the heat of the engine is causing the ipg to fail it's a $40ish part I'm gonna order it and a new gasket just in case I only used grease to hold it in place approximately 300 miles ago but if I don't get a new one it'll stick
