Is the shift lever supposed to bend in a bit?

Hey all, been riding my 2002 919, and it's sometimes a bit picky about shifting. I took a look at the lever, and it tends in towards the bike a bit. I know the bike's been crashed before, so I imagine it's bent in a little. If so, bend back out a bit, or just replace?

Thanks for any advice.

I'd heat it up and bend it back. My brake pedal was rotated 90 degrees inward, took a wrench and bent it right back, hasn't snapped yet.

Mine was once folded back completely.
I mean totally pretzled.
I used a vice and two crescent wrenches to rework it cold.
Fairly easy to do.
While I was at it, I reshaped it a bit to tuck it in closer to the engine casing.
I would not use heat.
