Idle is jumpy

The other day when I was riding, I felt that the idle was fluctuating a lot. At first, it was jumping to ~1300 rpm then later on that day it was jumping to 1500rpm (as the gauge measures). I checked the fuel pressure regulator and it will hold a vacume, so it is not leaking. I just changed the spark plugs, but I have not had a chance to take it for a ride since then.

Any other suggestions of possible causes would be appreciated.

You sure the choke is pushed in all the way?

My idle goes up about that much after the bike is fully warmed up. Cold it starts around 1000, warm its around 1300

Suggest you also check your cable slack.
If there is not enough free play, certain bar positions can effect the idle speed.

Not on a bike but in vehicles I've had troublesome idle with air in the coolant lines.

Mine will surge at idle. It will do it when warm but very little. When cold it has a tendency to surge a little rougher on warm up. This was never present in stock form. When I added exhaust, BMC filter, PCIII, air-box mod, PAIR valve block off plates and smog removal- that's when I noticed it. I KNOW mine is a tuning issue as I am running a generic map and my symptoms change with different maps available.

Can you tell us what modifications you have done to your bike? I am betting you have the same issue.

G'day Neilio919. How's Pvster's sato map been running for you?
Also Captain my bike came with a surge or a pulse a idle and very low revs. This has mostly gone now. A starter valve synchronization and pc111usb pretty much did this.

Good day to you as well!

The Pvster Sato map did okay. I ran the bike for an entire tank with this map to give it a fair shake. I feel it is a good "street" map. It was smooth at all revs when cruzing around, and throttle response under no load was acceptable. However for my application, temperature, altitude (about 1,100 ft), air density, and riding style- this map does not cut it... It is in my opinion very LEAN. My bike ran hotter temperatures than normal, and was lacking in the power delivery significantly. I also found myself using the choke alot in the cool mornings and engine start was more difficult when hot. I switched back to the "yoshi" map and was instantly reminded of what I had been missing. This will have to do till I get a custom tune.

Mods: Delkevic SS70 exhaust w/o inserts (Y-pipe and two cans with stock header), BMC air filter, PCIII, PAIR block off plates and smog removal, intake flapper mod- vacuum pod, and flapper removed and pod hole covered and smoothed out.
