Honda VTR1000 Calipers fit ?

Hi all, first post but have been lurking for awhile . Great forum ! I have a 2002 919 I owned about 5 years ago and then sold to my brother when I moved away. Unfortunately he let it sit for about 4 of those years . So, I just got it back a few weeks ago and am working on getting it back into ride able condition.

My main question is Im looking for some gold calipers (yes Im one of the few who likes the gold lol )
I have found a set of VTR1000 fronts on ebay, will they fit ?
If anyone is interested I would be willing to swap my blacks for their golds but mine need to be cleaned up a little as they have sat in a carport for 4 years .

What other gold ones are a direct bolt on ? Thanks in advance, Jerry

Any of these will bolt right up, the biggest issue is to make sure you get the corresponding master cylinder or else the brakes will not be proportioned correctly. You will also have to shim the calipers to center the rotor in the caliper body, stainless washers work perfectly.

- VTR1000
- CBR600F4 & F4i
- CBR919rr
- CBR929rr
- CBR954rr
- RC51

There's a few threads on here about caliper swapions. You'll need to match the calipers to the correct master cylinder.

A quick search may show more options.

Ok, been hunting ebay for what seems like hours now lol. What about the rear ? I see tons of 929,600,954 gold ones. DO I need the MC to work with these as well ?

all depends.... the fronts your probably gonna want to make sure you get a correct MC.

paging rob.... what size are the pistons on the calipers and mc of the VTR1000 vs the 919.

You know the stock calipers on '06 and '07 were gold, right?

FYI, I have a set of RC51 calipers. Send me PM if interested.

I know they fit a F3 front wheel with two shims on each side, not sure how they would fit up to a stock wheel, might just need to shim them correctly.

I do know the stock later years were gold. I would love to just do a stock swap if I could. Not looking for any massive brake upgrade ,just changing the look of the bike.
I want to go the easiest cheapest route to get gold calipers atm lol

That would be swapping with someone with gold calipers. You never know, lots of guys don't like the gold; wanted to go more of a dark look (like myself) and would gladly swap. Just put a WTB thread in the classifieds.

I have a set of RC51 brakes with master cylinder for sale that I have not had any bites on:
https://www.wristtwisters.com/forums/...9-a-29553.html

I'll split 'em up; $80 for the calipers and $120 for the master cylinder, plus actual shipping.

Ok, well I finally bought a set of fronts VTR1000's on ebay. I went ahead and got a set that came with the front master cylinder as well. It was cheaper to buy it all together then to buy separate and pay shipping twice. Just got to receive them and clean them up a bit.
Now, onto the rear, I see a ton of gold ones on there . Will my MC work if I just change out the caliper itself ? Or do I once again need to match the MC to the rear caliper ?
P.S. my black ones will be f/s once I get all this done .Jerry

If you swap for a 919 caliper, no m/c change is necessary, just install, bleed and go.

So as I continue to search and read I see the VTR and the 919 both use the 14mm mc lol So, Im assuming I could have just bought the calipers themselves and used my 919 mc ?
I already bought the vtr mc so i might as well use it but for future people searching can see they are the same.

It's not actually so simple as master piston diameter.
The other factor is the lever ratio which is a function of the lever's pivot centreline to the master's piston centreline.
If those dimensions are common, only then do you have overall "mastering" that is common.
