Honda 919 Engine Guard Versus Frame Slider query

Hi there,

I just purchased a 2004 Honda 919. One of the main reasons I went for this bike was due to the fact that I live in NYC and ride to work, and my old bike was knocked over several times by idiot motorists, the last time causing enough damage for the insurance to total the bike... Naked sport bike seemed liked the best of both worlds.

Anyway I'm desperate to try and prevent this happening as much as possible, so I was going to immediately put frame sliders on the bike, but the PO installed this engine guard that from what I can tell goes exactly where the slider would go. So my question is should I remove it and put a set of frame sliders on, or will the guard provide adequate protection? It sticks out maybe an inch and a half, so not sure if its long enough to provide much help if the bike is tipped over, but obviously I have no way of testing that out.

Any advice would be much appreciated! Again just to reiterate its stationary falls that I'm worried about rather than going down at speed.

Thanks in advance
