Help with FZ1 idle issue

Recently got a 2005 FZ1 with Mikuni carbs. Bike is all stock. I'm fairly certain it sat around a bunch, 3200 miles. Gas in it was old and tires where down to 5 and 10 psi. I only got to test ride it about 1/2 a block before I realized the tires were about flat.

When you 1st start it I'm able to get it to idle at 1100 RPM soon after starting. After a few miles of riding when it warms up good the idle starts creeping up till it idles at 4000 RPM or so.

Choke is off as far as switch. I've adjusted the throttle cable so it has a 1/8" of slop in it. Turning the steering has no effect. I took the tank off and drained all gas out of it and the carbs than put fresh Chevron gas in it. Same results. Any guesses as to what the problem is?

Garage
Gummed up slow jets. Clean the carbs, check vacuum lines.

Yep, I agree, you'll need to clean out the fuel system and check everything for general goodness.

While you're there put a Holeshot jet kit in. Tons more power, no dips or surging, & it will be smooth as glass. Best $100 you can spend on the 1st Gen FZ1.

1st Gen FZ1 is an awesome bike. Jet kit, slip-on, & gear it down a little and it will do run/do whatever you what.
