Engine knock at low rpm acceleration

Hey guys I'm experiencing and knock during gears 1st and 2nd between like 2-4k RPMs. After that it goes away. Is this considered normal? Is anyone else having this problem? I only have 9k miles on my cb919.

engine knock. No, its not normal. Hmmm. is it there all the way to 4k or it starts only at 2k?

if it starts to knock at 2 until 4, very mysterious knock you got there.
if it's all the way until 4 and then stops, could be you cam chain which is very rare on 919

10 bucks says its a kink in the chain... properly wash and clean it then properly lube it and adjust it (adjust it on the looser side of the spec... too tight and you will cause issues)

he said engine knock, chain would be too obvious. Are you certain it is coming from your engine?

few $$ from advanceautoparts will get you this. Long screwdrivers works too if you know what you are doing

yeah it usually starts at about 2-3 and ends at 4-5. I don't know if its exactly engine "knock" but it is coming from the motor under load at around those rpms and it sounds like a knock. Its not very distinct but it is there. Would adjusting the cam chain maybe fix this?? any other ideas are appreciated.

For what it's worth...Not saying you do not have a mechanical problem but over the years I have had many bikes, trikes, trucks and cars that have had knocks, ticks, taps and clunks that I stressed over. None of them ever manifested into a problem. Sometimes you will hone in on a particular sound and focus all your attention on it and stress over it. Hope thats all it is for you?

There are bold motorcyclists and old motorcyclists, but (OK) there are few old bold motorcyclists

im telling you OP, take a look at your chain. its probably too tight, dirty, has kinks or a combination of all those.

With anything in line, and especially the 919 use the KISS method... keep it simple stupid haha.

Could it be we're overthinking and it's the fuel injection?

What fuel are you using

Just as aerodynamic airplanes are simple and streamlined, a motorcycle--which manages to balance an engine and a seat between two wheels--has a mechanical integrity, with intertwining pipes, chains and springs, that is fascinating to behold - Peter Plagens

Is it a "knock" or more of a "rattle"?

Try to pin point if its coming from the engine or the intake

Mine always sounds like total ass under light load when the engine is cold. Chances are you stop hearing it after 3rd gear due to wind noise.

Once it warms up it goes away.

Seems to be a 919 thing.

My 919 had a noise in the bottom end when i got it. Stripped the engine and found two bad main bearings, polished the crank and completly rebuilt the bottom end.

Put it all back together and its still noisy ..... at least to me anyway.

Maybe. My cousin has a 1000rr and also agrees the over all feel of my gsxr is nicer.

I love my 919 and its become my main go to bike, but the Suzuki seems like a better bike.

I've always heard the other way around, honda >>> all. I could have a one off.

My bike sounds exactly like my old honda civic with higher miles when cold.

Kinda like wrist pin slap/valves out of spec. Tick tick tick pretty loud, goes away after 5 minutes of riding. Only when under a light load.

My bike has done it since I bought it at around 3k miles. Yes 3000 miles.

At this point it seems normal lol.

I think some have said it could be resonance in the air box. Could be piston slap too. Mine has done it since day 1 with zero miles, many say theirs do it as well... I kinda like the sound whatever it is.

RE: RMB

Mine has always done the same with 42,000 miles. It's in the air box or the exhaust. It raps almost like a strong 2 cyl and then goes away about 4-5 k. I wish mine kept that sound thru the whole rev range!

At 80,000 kilometers I did a valve clearance and my cam chain was over stretched...
