I run those, like them a lot and that's a damn good price on them. Good in all weather and even down past freezing, last a long time, excellent grip.

IMO... never skimp on tires on any vehicle.... is 100 bucks worth it to have tires that would possibly give up traction, when a name brand tire wouldnt of?

Avon is not a no-name brand, they're well liked and respected by the touring and sport-touring world. They're owned by Goodyear these days. They haven't been so popular in the sportbike world because their product cycle tends to be a bit on the slow side.

Next thing I know, you're going to say you don't know who Metzeler is either. :P

In the end, how do you ride? If touring and regular commuting, there is a level of tire that is great. If riding more aggressively, there is a level of tire that is great. Same for track days. Is the tire - I guess reviews are all we have until personal experience - right for how YOU want to ride?

I chose my tires based on the best compromise for what I wanted? needed?

2 seasons on my Avon ultra sports and so far so good. They warm up fast and wear fairly good.
This season will put them to the test.....2 up riding.

Cooper is the parent company for Avon motorcycle tires.

Cooper makes good tires. But they don't race. And they don't sponser a whole bunch of things. Maybe that's how they keep their prices low.

I had a set of Coopers on a Dakota in the 90s. They were very good tires. I'd be tempted to try a set

You are correct; for some reason I thought Goodyear owned them.

Yeah, actually, they *do* go racing. Both Cooper and Avon.

If you can get 2 seasons out of any tire that means you don't ride enough...

I'd go for it. Avon is a good tire, I've always run their road riders on my Ninja 500. Heck I'm running cheap Shinkos on my 919 right now that cost more than those Avons, which I'm sure are just as good if not better than a similar offering from Michelin, Dunlop, etc.

Just a note; these Shinkos on my bike may be my favorite tire I've ever run! But I'd still take a set of name brands over them for that price just for newer tech and it being a "better" tire even if those advantages aren't really apparent to my riding.
