Bike won't start

I've had my bike sitting for a year while I was away for deployment. I came back, put new fuel in he tank, changed the oil and the battery is fully charged. With I attempt to start, there's a cranking coming from the engine and it sounds extremely loud. Can anyone point me in the right direction as to what's going on? I would greatly appreciate it.

You say you've added new gas, but was the tank completely empty and dry? I'd track down bad gas before anything else. A year is plenty of time for condensation to ruin your existing fuel.

At its most simple, remember your engine needs 3 things to fire: compression, spark and fuel.

Compression is unlikely to have changed over time [but not impossible]. You can check that you still have spark with a spare plug and a ground. But I'm picking fuel as the most vulnerable part of your system...

...and just do a quick check that your kill switch isn't rocked to the off position...

When you say "cranking", is the engine turning over or is it a clicking noise?
