Aftermarket guage: erratic tach

Ive decided to refresh the look of my niner with an aftermarket GPS Speedo/tach. Speedo is working but tach is erratic. Not really a bouncing needle, its not tracking the revs accurately, slow in reacting to revs and reacting randomly to the throttle.
Tried wrapping the new tach wiring to hi tension from coils, no joy. Tried tapping new tach to stock tach wiring, same problem. Anyone else experience this? Would one of those tach filters help? Ive slso heard of splicing in a resistor. Any suggestions?

I'm wondering if this is a MSD (Multi-Spark) issue. Is there any switches, hidden dip switches, jumper settings, etc...?

Do you have a brand name?
