919 Subframe?

has anyone else done any frame work to their 919? i 12'd my bike last year, and my single side exhaust hitting the ground and bending back was enough to twist my rear sub, by about 3/8 of an inch... it's still straight front to back, and i can use my pogo stick to straighten it, but has anyone else done any frame reinforcing?

just be real careful... that is not a great amount of twist... and we are talking about steel so you should be able to straighten it.....

i'm not at all worried about the process of straightening it, i was just currious if anyone has done any reinforcing... i did bodywork for a while, so a simple subframe tweak doesn't scare me just wanna make sure it doesn't happen again..and it kindof explained why my bike feels like i am riding a cooked spaghetti noodle when i am out playin on the country corners can you say 'chassis flex'?

I've been looking into bracing the chassis, and am convinced that the addition of a Ducati style series of tubes welded to the existing backbone in strategic points would do a pretty good job of bracing the frame without adding too much mass. The trick is where to attach them -- I'm doing a half seroius attempt at FSA on the bare chassis / engine to determine where the attachments should be, then need another 919 to play with. That and filling the backbone with semi rigid structural polyurethane foam to kill resonances and standing waves would also be a good move. I'll keep you posted.

Rob

If it has already been done, it is safe to assume it is possible to do it.
On the other hand, if it has not been done never assume it is impossible to do it.

I'm also designing several additional frame supports. I'm the guy turning my 919 into a dual sport so for off-road use and the occasional rocky trail ride, the stock frame will not suffice.

I'm actually building a lower cradle that will lead from the existing front engine mounts all the way back to the lower portion of the frame by the swingarm mount. Then I'm running two more support beams up toward the tail. That structure will support the obligatory, extra large dual sport saddlebags!

Rob, I want to talk more about your FEA results. I'm in the process of designing my frame on Solidworks and should have it done enough to post up pic's this week.

Alexa braced the heck out of his frame.
Well maybe that's not accurate enough, he created a new subframe.

Alexa's bike looks great, but there is so0o0 much money wrapped up in it. I think id rather own a second bike instead of all that.

you mean did I ripe the entire site and store it at project919.com ????

eh, could be

I should touch base w/ Alexa b4 doing anything.

FWIW, I think Alexa fabbed most of the stuff himself and didn't have as much money into the thing as people might think. Time yes, money, not so much.

Titanium is cheap, right?

So when is someone gonna ask Spondon to just make a whole new frame ala the Grizzly?

Spondon sweetness, it WAS a dream of mine.

The "Project" has been disabled in an effort to increase 9r traffic on the WT website.

The Project Archives are buried in a not-so-well-known URL and are restricted.

I want to visit w/ Alexa prior to reposting his info.
Will update you when there has been a change in status.

I'm a slacker and haven't dropped Alessandro an email.
Work threw me several curveballs this week and many tasks were delayed in execution.

Will do this week.
