900rr headers - are they worth it?

I am forever finding new mods to try on my 05 919. One of which which keeps coming up is the change of headers. There seems a few 919 riders with 900rr headers. And I assume and have gathered that this impacts on performance, hence the popularity.

Changing the headers, at first glance, doesnt seem beyond my meagre mechanical abilities as it seems undoing bolts and replacing, re mounting. Yet is it worth the effort?

I have peeked on ebay for 900rr headers and should probably scour the breakers here in AUstralia for the same...

If its worth doing, I will do it. As even on ebay the prices do not seem horrific.

Any advice?

(My current set up is stock headers of an 05 919 with Dan Moto slipons - so the Y pipe to fit this I believe.)

I think the main reason most people do it is due to the stink on your clothes due to exhaust gas from the undertail. I don't think you really get any power gain, as a matter of fact I think I may have lost a bit on the low end. I have had 900RR headers for 95K miles and love it. If you don't have the exhaust stink, may not be much benefit.

There are some bad points, like losing the ability to add a center stand.

I did it to see if I could, and because I liked the low pipe look. Don't know much about changes in performance but immediately I swapped i noticed the difference in feel due to the absence of high-up weight from the stock cans. Wouldn't go back.

Good points on the weight loss and lower CG!
