The Stock Headlight Does Suck

Well you guys said it but I didnt know how bad it actually was. Got my registration and insurance done Monday and decided to ride to work this morning. Well it was cold but thats cool I have riding gear and a super comfy Arai Rx7 Corsair thats warm as heck with the vents closed. So I fire up pull out if the driveway and want to switch to hi beams "wth, its already on hi beam!!!????" man this light is terrible. Scattered everywhere and brightness is not good at all. So I was complaining to a co worker about it this morning who has a dog oops I mean hog. Turns out he has a new daylighter he is going to gook me up with. He bought a custom front fairing and it came with one so he has an exttra. From what I can tell it should fit and reviews are very good for them. Your thoughts? Oh and im almost getting it for free.

Yep the stock headlight does suck.
Your daylighter? should fit as long as it's 7". There is a thread here about fitting aftermarket led headlights into the stock headlight bucket using the headlight rim assembly from a CB400. I think I got the bike model right. Might pay to check. I just fitted a led headlight using this rim assembly. I got it from a crowd called 4 into 1.

Refer to this thread here. Likely the easiest method of retrofitting it in. I am in the process of doing the trucklite myself. Just waiting for a dremel so i can do a clean job

Right on thx guys, only thing I do not like is this daylighter has the halo thing on it. I know its cool and all but its one more thing to go wrong lol. I may go for the Nighthawk one, I read a review here for it and it looked good and performance seemed great. But this thing was cheap so I may just go with it, it does have projectors.

Eh, Iíve been running without the halo connected on mine and it didnít really make a difference. Iíll be connecting it up tomorrow though as it bothers me that I didnít connect it before!

other option is just to upgrade to a 599 light

My bike is an Australian 02 model. They came with a black gauge backing. Later models got the chrome, like yours.
The matt black is a bitch to wipe dried bugs off!
Really all I did was touch up my nuts.

Yeah I didn't like the stock turn signals either. The ones I'm using are just some no brand made in tiawan for honda led's. I paided $30 aud for a pair. Liked them so I got two more pair. Off eBay. Don't remember the seller, it was over a year ago. The one pair has lasted for a year so far, no problems. Brighter than stock. They are rubber mounted. Don't know if this an advantage but I do know it encourages dickheads to yank them up and down! Don't ask how I know.

I got a pair of those led headlights for $80 aud. Very bright. Yes that is the CB400 ring assembly. Very easy to fit up into stock bucket. A solid mount. Also retains left/right beam adjustment with this particular headlight. The rear of it has the three matching "keys" which locks the headlight when the ring assembly bolts together. Clamps it. I got the ring assembly from 4 into 1. The running light strips at the top and bottom I have wired into low beam. The high beam is ridiculously bright.

I bought an Eagle light which I believe is a Harley LED Replacement and then 3D printed brackets to mount the Eagle light to the OEM ring. It was very straightforward.

Thinking about doing this too. Seems cheaper than the 599 conversion.

I bought the 4 into 1 headlight trim ring, and bought a knock off daymaker headlight on Amazon with lots of good reviews for $70.

The ring is 3 pieces and does hold the light and give you left/right adjustment. But you still need to add a top mounting screw to the top of the headlight bucket, and only 1 of the 2 stock holes at the bottom line up.

I then found a drop in replacement LED that is identical to stock in regards to the mounting and backside of the light so I ordered that as I wasnít motivated enough to drill 2 holes in the bucket and finish it up.

Lots of good info out there, I just didnít want to drill the stock bucket or buy another.
