Speedo / Tach backgound 919

Does anyone know where you can get white euro style backgrounds for the speedo / tach for a 2002 Honda 919? I have seen them on people’s bikes before, or was that a completely different unit?

Here, you can choose between a few colours. If you can find the translate button your good to go. Not sure if you can get MPH Fond de compteur - HONDA 900 CB F Hornet Ph.2 - DRN on eBay.ca (item 390199420712 end time 18-Mar-11 06:13:45 EDT)

benr, its really difficult to change the background in the gauges and a very time consuming process to recalibrate which requires some sophisicated tools. if you dont have the tools required, your best bet is to throw in some super white led lights. if you are interested in that route i can guide you to the leds to use.

They attach pretty much at the center of the gauge if I recall correctly...no?

i remember rob chiming in on this subject (dont have time to search so you do it?) and he said by removing the needles they lose position and the only way to reset them is through some osculator of sorts with a magnetic type tool.

i believe someone tried this before and thats why it hasnt been done, otherwise changing the gauge faces would be a very popular mod?

yeah you need two. you can use any t10 that is cross referenced for 194, 158 and you want 5 sided. search for any color. the only one ive tried so far is blue and while it is mad bling, its hard to read (i'm talking bright blue). depends on your eyes though. the euro look you want, the white leds will give you i think. i'm going to try red and amber next. if i dont like any of those i'll go to white.

Anyone have a picture of the lights installed? I wanted to replace it anyway because I bought a bike in the states and wanted to change it from miles to KM. But if it requires special tools and a ton a time then going with some lights might be a good idea. Just hard to imagine what that would look like.

Thanks for the help

Mine with Red 5 sided leds, lasted about a year before corrosion killed them. Dielectric grease on the leds maybe next time. Now I run red blubs like the stock ones, think i got them at autozone for cheap. not as bright but still going strong after a few years.

Got an E-mail back from this guy, he says he use to install the backgrounds but not anymore.
In my E-mail I asked about special tools, he answered a fork, a spoon and a small flat blade screw driver.

on a 919 gauge? can you ask him to provide more details??? we'd love more info/pix if possible. if it indeed is possible, i have a set of gauges i'd be willing to use for a test. problem is i wouldnt be able to plug it into the harness to make sure the needles are correct since the oem plug has been cut off.

and even if you do mess up say the placement of the guages... u dont need special tools.

for the speedo just a gps.... its going to be off the same ammount at every speed

for tach.... a secondary tach and walla... alll back to normal

I'll ask for more details, if he sells the backgrounds he's probably done the job hundreds of times which makes it real easy for HIM.

I would be very interested to hear more from this guy, I wondering if he would be willing to put together a tutorial with pics in order to sell some backgrounds?
