I purchased a set for rider and passenger but the rear ones don't stay up in position when not in use. Not that it is a huge deal but I have smacked my shins a few times. :-) They are the tapered race pegs PE614

It sounds like you need to reposition the swivel on the footpegs to a more conducive angle...then they should stay up. The springs arent all that powerful, and its easy for them to get pushed to the down position when you mount up.

.

Well, fire the engines! Spur this iron space-pony on!

The rider pegs work fine, it's the passenger pegs I have troubles with. There are no springs on the rear ones.
