Ram Mounts

Just read an article on these new mirrors, they attach to RAM mounts screwed into your existing mirror mounts. I thought for those who use bar end mirrors these RAM mounts would make a good place to mount GPS, Cell Phones other accessories..

You can buy just the RAM ball with threads separatly alot of places.

Ram also makes a motorcycle kit. It comes with the x-grip, an arm, u clamp and a bracket with long screws to mount it to your master cylinder or clutch perch or handle bar. High quality product. I was at Iron Pony last Sunday in Columbus and they had them for 54$ I was gonna buy one but I think someone would just take it off of my bike. I know 2 people who have the x- grip for their phones and it is beast.

I just ordered some balls that fit in my unused mirror hole and an adaptor and waterproof case for my phone... I'll let you know what it looks like/how it works once I get it.

Well, I got my case, and have been pretty unimpressed by it. The mounts and balls (yes I said balls) seem fine and I like how they work, but the case design is far too universal and not very well executed. You can't use any of the side buttons without pulled the front out of the case on accident (which I would be fine with if they hadn't advertised it) and the screen almost feels like it's made out of blister packing and already has creases in is just from testing at my house. Along with not being very touch friendly, you need to use foam to make the phone fit in a case "specifically designed for it"
If anyone has suggestions for waterproof cases that will work with ram mounts I'm all ears.

Buy the x-mount and a life proof case. The ram x mount holds my S4 very well

I only plan on using it for commuting and removing from the case as soon as I get where I'm going. Being able to talk or hear from the phone speakers/mic is not important to me.

With the life proof you don't just keep removing it it's meant to stay in the case.

Well, ended up ordering a hit case. They contract through ram mount so all their mounts are good quality, and the case is way better. Actual buttons for the volume, home and power buttons, and a fish eye lens for wider recording view. My first attempt was having it mounted using the old mirror holes with ram balls in them. It felt too obtrusive to me, and the engine vibes did weird things to the lens. I have in mounted in a place I really like now, but I haven't gotten a chance to rotate it up from this location and try recoding again. It's definitely not cheap, but compared to the ram case it's worth the extra money by far.
