MRA Varo Touring Windshield

My new MRA arrived the other day from Twisted Throttle. Very handsome windscreen in smoke tint and nice quality (German). Installation of the arms that attach to the handlebars was a bit tricky. I was also shorted (8) 5mm nuts which were easy to find at the hardware store.

Tested in highest and lowest settings. Low setting was slightly better than no screen but not a considerable difference. 100mph still had considerable head and chest buffeting. However that little spoiler made all the difference at the same speed. At 100 with spoiler in highest setting, I felt like I could ride at that speed for a long distance if it was legal. I tested without ear plugs and was surprised how comfortable it was at 80. At 100 I could turn my head to the side and didn't feel the wrenching forces without a screen. The ride was still breezy but no buffeting at head or chest. I think this is going to be an all the way up or all the way down screen for me.

The windshield looks pretty small on the bike and I wasn't expecting a quiet ride like on my Burgman and Goldwing but it seems to be an good improvement for higher speeds and long trips. I've got a 1200 mile ride coming up this week so I'll report back further evaluations.

Very nice! I've always heard glowing reviews of the Vario on various bikes. I remember trying several different brands on my Bandit and the MRA "Touring Screen" was the best.

Where ya headed? I'll be based in Jasper AR this weekend.

Ken, headed to Forgan, Oklahoma (NW panhandle) to a Goldwing Meet and Greet. Made some good friends on goldwingownersforum.com when I had a Wing. One of the guys has put together a shoot and scoot for this weekend. Some of us are camping out in his backyard and headed to the range for some shooting. And we're riding up to Kansas to Boot Hill and check out the Dalton Gang hangout. This will be my first long ride on the 919. Leaving Thursday and headed home Monday.

What are you doing in Arkansas?

Same thing. Just meeting up with a couple of old buds and riding. There's liable to be a wee bit of single malt consumed at the end of the day too.

Same here but best part is we'll be at his house consuming so no riding to the hotel afterwards. You riding up solo? I'm headed to Waco Thursday to spend the night with one of our riders. Three of us riding up through west TX. into OK. I think you'll have the prettier ride area though. Only twisties we'll have are the gas station pull through. Hope you have a safe and fun ride weekend Ken.

Same to you Dan. I'm riding up with one buddy and meeting at least one more in Jasper. Oh, and I totally agree - I never pull the cork unless I'm done riding for the day.

Any chance I can get a report on this shield? I am real close to buying one.
