Installing latest firmware for Interphone F5 is a good idea

This is a short PSA for people who own an Interphone F5 Bluetooth headset for their helmet. This is the previous generation device; the newest device is the F5MC, which brings a lot of nice improvements.

The F5 has always been sluggish when going through the menus. My particular device sometimes has bad days, and it will hang up between menu selections and shut off. I had installed a new firmware update back in 2012, but it didn't really improve the behavior during menu switching, or stop the occasional uncommanded shutdown.

On a whim, I installed the latest firmware for the Interphone F5, R105, July 8, 2013. The software calls home and downloads the latest firmware, so it is a painless operation.

My early impression is that the R105 firmware is a huge improvement. The menus cycle very quickly, making the buttons a LOT more responsive. Turning the device on and off still requires a looooooooong press of the center button (three to four seconds is just too long). I'll have to use the F5 for a while longer before I know if the shutdowns have been eradicated.

In short, I no longer "need" to get a new F5MC or another new Bluetooth device for my helmet.
