Function over form

So I was greatly attracted to the idea of a screen visor for my bike to reduce the buffeting at highway speeds, and first saw these things here:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/PUIG-CLIP-O...5aV-qP&vxp=mtr

...but balked at the price, given that I wasn't really sure what the outcome might be. Recently saw these:

https://www.banggood.com/Universal-M...r_warehouse=CN

Ugly, but excellent price, so now have one fitted. Excellent function, nice pocket of still air just in front of my face, solid air flow now striking at the top of my visor and flowing over my helmet, rather than at my chin level. Quieter, less buffeting.

Wrong colour wrong shape wrong style, but whatcha gonna do?

Nice find. I hate the way my stock screen deflects wind on to my helmet.
And being so ugly, no one will steal it!
Does it also deflect bugs? So many bugs here.

I rode for about an hour in the twilight last night, and it has bug marks on it, so I guess they're either going to hit it or be shoved out of the way...

Were the bugs hitting your helmet?

No, good point, very few on my visor considering the time of day and the length of the ride thru the countryside.

If it works, use it! If you wanted to try to shape it a bit (soften the sharp corners), you can use a dremel with a felt polishing wheel. I removes material nicely, but leaves a nice finish.

I'm all about function over form, to a point. I'm sorry, but that thing is beyond that. I could deal with it, if it weren't for the big metal thing in the middle, obstructing my view. To each his own. Bugs do get annoying. But I would have started over, and gotten bigger screen, before adding that thing.

That little screen was never designed to have that appendage stuck on the end of it. Vibration and air speed are going to take its toll. You're screen is eventually going to crack.

I had a GIVI screen on my old 919, that was designed for that bike. The GIVI cracked at the mounting points, and I didn't have anything attached to the GIVI.

What those little screens did most, was make noise. Quieter without them.

I had the little 5" "Touring Screen" on my 990 Super Duke. It vevntually either cracked or broke all 4 mounting points.

Sorry to be a Buzz Kill. Fore warned is fore armed.

Yes, I had wondered about that too, Mike - thanks for the tip.

That just clips on? I donít see any problem with it. For long highway rides that looks perfectly fine.

Yes, it's held tight by 4 allen-head grub screws at the back, which squeeze on to the [big] screen via a protective rubber layer.
