Communications

When Conor and I got home from his welcome back to school night last night he asked me if there was a radio we could put in his helmet so we could talk to each other when we ride?
Well I've been riding solo for so long that I have no idea whats available or whats worth the $$'s as far as intercoms go, so my questions are; what are people using? do you like it?
I would prefer some type of PTT over VOX because I tend to "encourage" other drivers when I ride and I'm not sure all the "encouragement" is rated PG for Conors 7yr old ears but I guess I could learn to think it instead of voicing it.

Thanks
Dan

I have CARDO Scala Rider Q2

It is set so I can talk to my daughter, talk to another rider, listen to radio, attach I-pod, and answer calls when I really want to. When you talk it picks it up so you would have to go to just thinking how well the other drivers are doing. It is all Bluetooth, except I-pod. 160$ a headset. ( I got the I am cute and bought a couple other item discount - I think regular price was 200$)

You can also get one that does same thing except talk to and another rider, comes with two headsets about the same price.

+1

Been riding just over 2 years, and had a passenger for about a year now, and not bothered with headsets. Hand gestures, and other forms of body language have always worked for us.

However if it makes conor enjoy riding more go for the headsets. You could also say the headsets are for safety, because you can let him know to hang on or any other commands that might be necessary for a safe ride.

I narrowed my search down to getting a Scala Rider Q2 MultiSet. You get 2 full sets so you can use it with a passenger or let a riding buddy use the other one for bike to bike communication.

I recommend the Scala Rider as well, but the only thing that would seem to be a negative for you is the fact that there is no PTT. It will recognize your voice and immediately start communicating. One thing that is nice about it though is that you can talk similar to a cell phone conversation, where one person may talk over or interrupt the other. With others like chatterbox which use a radio where you have to wait for the other person to finish talking to transmit.
