599 wind screen on a 919

Just jot my 599 screen

the screen fits the bike but the mounting hardware needs a little moding

I'll cut it and re weld it to fit the 919, still using the hardware that came with the screen .
Here's a pic of what i mean , needs to be more inwards too but i can make it work ...I'll post some pics with the finished product this week

wouldnt it have been easier to bend the barrs and snip them then reweld the brackets?

I may not have a lot to say but it doesn't mean I don't listen.

Was the edging/lip part of the stock screen?

If the 599 windscreens are still available, and you come up with a viable solution, I sure others will follow.

If you bend the bars, you're throwing the screen up at a high angle ... ?

but wouldnt have the bracket compensated for that? i dunno, just looks pretty brutal for a brand new part.

I may not have a lot to say but it doesn't mean I don't listen.

Thought about it but the bracket is too long and the back hole doesn't come close to matching .

Yes the edging is part of the screen and i really like the gray tint color.

The screen i bought new on e-bay so they are still available.

I wonder if the holes in the 599 screen would line up with the 919 brackets...

That would be information worthy of posting in the Helpful Topic thread.

So today i welded up the brackets to fit the 919 , i would have taken pics but i forgot my camera at home ...anyway here they are painted with VHT header paint but i'll have to wait till tomorrow for the paint to dry and then bake them , should be ready for install tomorrow night .

On a side note i also made a simple set of brackets to mount my Denali lights which will be installed at the same time .

Fix - and no one will know any different. Well apart from the WT family.

i do say they turned out rather nice. I'm not a welder by any stretch (i can barely solder some days) and I think it turned out near factory.

I may not have a lot to say but it doesn't mean I don't listen.

I eyeballed mine at just about damn near almost exactly-ish 6cm from center of bolt to center of bolt.

Velo,Can we get you to give us an eye-to-eye measurement on the 599 windscreen?

me? I don't have the 599 stuff, that would be hangster. I just said the brackets he welded back up look near factory made.

did I mess up here?

I may not have a lot to say but it doesn't mean I don't listen.

Garage
IIRC, someone on WT once said the actual polycarbonate windscreen was the same between the 919 and 599 screens.

velo - sorry, that was my bad.
Thanks Hangster -- there have been a lot of people looking for the stock 919 screen, and the 599 screen could get them 1/2 way there.

Well i finished up tonight with the install , Curiousmike i've measured the holes on the 599 wind screen and they are dead on 6 cm center to center .

Here's some pics during the install (and a vid providing it doesn't take 9 years to upload to you tube).

I'll post a vid as soon as you tube allows me to , but it turned out pretty good and i'm very much liking it

Kick ass, Hangster.

Now we know for certain ( as CB700 pointed out ) that the physical screens are identical.

If for whatever reason a 919 owner needed to replace the screen, the 599 is an option.

Alternatively, Hangster should buy all the 599 screens available, fab up some brackets for the 919, and profit.

How do you like the Denali lights? Did you make your own brackets for them?

Thanks guys , RMB yes i made the brackets for the lights too (pretty simple to do) and the lights i love , i had them on my previous bike and they are my main driving lights since they completely drown out the stock light , i believe they are worth every penny.

I dunno, the 919 OEM screen seems to have more of a curved lip at the top than this 599 does...at least, in looking at the one I just picked up from brick and comparing to the photos here. Whether or not that makes ANY sort of difference I have no idea, but just something I think I'm seeing from these photos.

And I'm SO torn in getting LED driving lights...or going with a HID bucket for my 919.

I may not have a lot to say but it doesn't mean I don't listen.

Hows the 599 screen working out?

I'd be very curious. From what I understand, you can still buy a new OEM 599 screen from most dealers.

Looks like all the orignal photos arent there anymore, can you repost?

What are your experiences with the 599 screen on a 919 so far?
