I saw this version "live" in a local shop, and the level of finish was stunning - a real head-turner.

I prefer this version, but it would have to be an '18 in the brown/burnt orange colour and no ABS.
I actually tracked one down about a year ago as NOS inventory in a shop far far far from big population centres, but wouldn't let myself take the plunge. The price was decent for NOS, and I figured some more could be had out of their pockets. My problem is two fold: Too heavily invested in 919 and SOHC CB750 stuff AND $$ doesn't grow on trees.

It is on my wish list, and I don't mean for Christmas.
The best bet is likely to find the right used one as the next few years go by.

Those Kawies look even better in person, and on the street than those pics. They look great up close and personal.

From what I gather, an exhaust and tune unlocks another 15 horseson those things.

I think I need one.

I think I need one too.
And an extra 15 ponies would be awesome.

Akrapovic has a really nice system available, loses a fair bit of weight and gets a big hit of more power.

As for need, I'm in the same camp.
I need one badly.
It's just that I can't, ......................yet.

Been doing some research today on the Z900RS.
So the homework is done for the hoped for day when I can get one.

Brown/Orange colouring.
Optional Centre Stand.
Optional ergo seat.
Optional Side Rails, but only left side fitted.
Full Akrapovic system and whatever electronic triks are needed to exploit that to the max.
Examine the lean stand lug for possible trimming re clearance to pavement at track day lean angles.

Of course the suspension would have to be revamped.
Perhaps a Z900 lower triple could be fitted to get more trail, but that would necessitate a custom made upper triple for handlebar mounting.

A set of Z900 pistons would bump the CR by one full point, that is if the cylinder head architecture is the same re the valve locations.
Nice to dream...............

I just can't leave stuff alone, real or imagined.

Lucky you to hear one!
We live in a 1.3 million population centre and I have never seen one on the road, let alone heard one.

Th Z900RS I said by far the closest thing to a 919. They are both, over weight, under powered. But the Kawie looks so good, i don't care.

Look up Ivan's Performance Z900RS. On his dyno, he's getting 120 RWHP after a full system, and a re-flash.

Big Thanks for the suggestion. I've just spent a chunk of time going over the info and finished documenting a bunch of it for my future reference. There is also lots that can be gleaned from the comments Ivan has made on his site. The only thing I'm not clear on is whether or not his reflash still relies upon a header bung for 02 feedback, regardless of whether it's a stock header or aftermarket.

Gotta say, that after reading the site info, it seems to me that the jump in sophistication in engine management from the 919 to the Z', is in the same league as the jump was from my SOHC CB750 to the 919.
But this time it's much easier to get my head wrapped around it all.

My New Next Motorcycle.

The tank is vaguely reminiscent of a 919, don't you think?

Having a hard time seeing that, but what is really obvious is how compact that bike is.
And the amount of daylight between road and underside looks huge.
How much does it weigh?

Curb weight is 411 pounds, with 3.7 gallons of fuel. Retail price is just under $12,000. 111 hp. 69 pound feet of torque.

That Ducati is basically a much nicer looking 990 Super Duke, with some electronic stuff thrown in for good measure.

It has the same weight, hp, tq. Heck, even the price tag is the same as an 08 KTM 990 SD.

Nothing new since Genesis. I still want one. But I'm never getting rid of my old Super Duke.

Nice and light!
Even better is the power to weight ratio.

My problem is I like them all.

Ya know, new vs new, that Duc is the same money as the Kawie, if I'm not mistaken.

Ducati have wet clutches. Valve adjustments keep getting longer. They're almost a normal bike!

Totally different bikes though.
Not an either or, more of an instead of in my mind.
The Duc' would be a funner ride I'd think.
The Kawi' would be enjoyable.
Not quite the same things.

That Honda looks to me to be just another overweight, underpowered, over priced motorcycle that some dude bolted some do-dads onto, and voila! He's a bike builder. Not for me.

Nice homage bike for all those endurance racers.

Knew a guy once who was part of an effort to win the Bol d'Or 24h on a T750 against the Hondas in the 70's...it didn't go the distance...

Each to his own, eh?
No doubt 50/50 would help, as in 50 less pounds and 50 more HP, but it sure looks nice!

Good reading.
It also underscores the practicality of the UJM concept, which was really an evolution of the typical British "Roadster" or it's "Club" variant.
We need a new term though, as "J" no longer has the corner on it, and hasn't for ages.
But UMs sounds kinda lame.
Anyone got a better sounding term?
UniEmms perhaps?

I never liked the term Naked.

Standard sounds pretty drab.

Streetfighter is ok, but could we lose the anger and violence?

Motard, nope.

Super Moto? Super is way over used.

I just call em Handlebar bikes. Not very descriptive, and somewhat clumsy.

Yes and it seems pretty much bolt on with no major engine work.
