Ok, i'm just gonna say what everyone else is thinking... why don't you just sell the FZ1 and get an R1?

agreed.

wouldn't the R1 have completely different suspension and steering head?

A number of options come up with a quick search.

Yamaha website:
Yamaha FZ1 Accessories, Yamaha FZ1 Lower Fairing Kit

ebay:
Yamaha FZ1 Lower Fairing Kits Raven on eBay!

Amazon:
Amazon.com: Yamaha OEM FZ1 - Lower Fairing Kit - Granite Gray (not shown) by Yamaha. OEM ABA-3C301-10-02: Automotive

Wild Hair Accessories:
Yamaha Fazer 1000 & FZ 1 Accessories. Wild Hair Accessories. Motorcycle Accessories & Aftermarket European Parts.

If it were mine I would go the opposite direction with it - remove the headlight cowling & get the FZ1N headlight.

You would basically have the slowest R1 on the planet

thats cool, to each his own. You should do something more unique than just turn it into a faux R1 though, just my 2 cents

I agree! You can make it an FZ1 with fairings but it will never be an R1. The FZ1 is a great bike, I'd turn it something cool and original.
My brother has an '06 FZ1 with a few mods (reworked suspension, 2 Bros. exhaust, custom map, airbox mod, Ivan's fuel cut eliminator...), and it's an absolutely brilliant bike!! Very easy to ride around town and totally rock solid at 90-100mph through mountain twisties. I'm sure the R1 is faster, but the FZ1 power still puts a huge smile on your face!

Ride the hell out of it and enjoy it!

My wife is still asking when I'm going to get another bike. I didn't want to like his FZ as much as I do, but I'm pretty jealous!!

The front end isn't going anywhere for a while, but when it does I'll sweeten the deal and throw in most of a 919 with it!

I just checked Google maps and that's more than 7500 miles (6000+ KM) for you HeliMech!!

I'm bored this afternoon at work so I thought about it for a second and did some quick calculations - if you averaged 40mpg the entire trip, with a rough national average gas price of $3.75 per gallon, it would cost you more than $700 USD just for gas to ride here and back!
For about the same $$$ you could get the S&P triples (~ $800 with tax & shipping), and then watch ebay for RC51 fork legs and front wheel.

It would be one hell of a road trip though...

Wow.....i want your job. Lol.

Yeah that would be quite the road trip. I have connections at a major air carrier and can fly stand by for pretty much free. Either that or take my VW camper van, did a coast to coast in my old bus 10 yrs ago.

There are actually only a few new parts on my bike - the triples are one of them. Most of the other parts were found used on ebay, and purchased over the course of 4 years... it was a painfully long and drawn out project!!

I had been watching the S&P triples for a couple years and could never justify the price. I finally got them 3 years into the project when I noticed S&P was offering 20% off at the time.

I wa commenting more on the "sitting around on the net, crunching imaginary numbers" rather then affording the S&P triples. They do make quality gear & 20% off is sweet!

Sorry, I thought you were referring to the price I paid for the triples. Even with the discount I was still a bit shocked by that one.

My afternoon is way too quiet, I'm heading home to get my dirt bike ready for tomorrow. I hope everyone has a great weekend.
