NT 650

Have an opportunity to pick up a 1989 650 Hawk red with 4600 miles on it for $2200. Is that a fair price, not a mark on only parts that have touched ground are the tires.

Thanks
Rich

Hey Rich: Jump all over the Hawk-GT. It's a great price for a great bike. These Hawks have a cult following, the retail price on a pristine one with low millage is typically $3300 on up. Any more questions, fire away.

This is another bike I should have kept.

Yup, that's a steal for that price with those miles and no crash damage. Get it or throw up a link

Great little bikes. I've had two and if it's in the condition you say worth the price. Biggest draw backs are stock suspension and brakes.

Sounds like a super deal.

I'd like to pick up a Hawk someday, if I come across a sweet sounding deal like that. The last few I've seen were pretty abused, and the owners were asking much more than $2200.

As many of you are aware the midwest was pounded by rain, thunder storms and between 4 & 5AM they said we had 80,000 lightning strikes. So yesterday morning we head out on the Hawk Quest. When we left it was a light drizzle , by the time we got there the rain had ceased. We loaded it up and it didn't start raining till we got to the garage.
All I had to do to it was buy a battery and put air in the tires.
So Here It Is

My wife thinks it's hers and my daughter thinks it should belong to her. The fellow bought new tires not that long ago, Avon Avorro or something like that. They are Z rated and have all the little nubbins on them.
I was surprised how smooth it is at 4.5K.

Odd you mention that, My only mod I'm considering ( if you could call it that ) is I'm trying to determine the age of the tires. They look brand new but are Avon Azaro II's which appear to no longer be made. That's my only concern,
boy it sure do ride nice. I walk around it and like everything I see. The fellow even gave me back $100 because the battery was dead.

Keep it a stock as possible. If you do mod. it be sure the bike can be returned to stock. My only mods. besides good radial tires was a Corbin gunfighter seat and 41 mm VFR clipons.

Cool - 4100 !
Id be laughing all the way to the bank !

Im not sure about Avon's code , but , all tire must have a serial nuber and a date code some where on the tire - Might start with something like DOT xx xx xxxx numbers - Take a look around the tire and Im almost willing to bet you'll be able to find the tires birthday -

$2200 is the deal of the century for a Hawk in that condition, especially completely stock. Modified Hawks, however, are a dime a dozen.

I currently own 2 Hawks -- one blue '88 (the first year) purchased new in the crate the first day they were available, uncrated and set it up myself, and proceeded to put over 145,000 miles on it. The trans is a weak point on these, but it would still be on the road were it not for a diesel fuel slick that caused a crash that jammed the trans into 2 1/2 gear hard enough to break a shift fork.

The other one is a modified red '89 with about 22,000 miles on it that I got in '03 for $1000 -- and the owner was glad to get that as it had been looked at briefly by four other prospective buyers, two of which walked away without another word whan they saw the mods. If you plan to sell it down the road keep it as stock as possible because it is practically worthless otherwise.

For your information the blue '88 is by far the most desirable Hawk to collectors, fetching at least 20% over the original purchase price depending on condition. How's that for holding their value?

BTW, the Hawk GT has 41mm forks, not 38mm.

Congratulations on the great find!

Rob

If it has already been done, it is safe to assume it is possible to do it.
On the other hand, if it has not been done never assume it is impossible to do it.
