Motorcycle taxes

In Kentucky you have to pay taxes and plates on your motorcycle every year during the month of your birthday. I always get a kick out of looking at the value they place on a bike. This determines how much tax you pay based on a precentage.

This year the wife went to the courthouse and got the tags for all four streetbikes. When she came back home she had some interesting information. The assessed value of the four bikes is as follows:

1988 Hurricane 600 - $583.

2001 Superhawk - $4,042,

2002 919 - $3,953.

1996 CBR 600 - $4,385?????

Do what?

I am going to have to call Monday or Tuesday. Why would the second oldest bike, a 600, with the most miles, be the highest assessed value? Something seems quite screwed up. The plate numbers match. I guess I need to check the VIN numbers and see if they screwed that up.

Not only a title fee every year but taxes as well on the value of the bike?

Am I reading that right?

I'll give you $1000 for the Hurricane right now, no questions asked.

How does the state of KY determine the values?

City tax value for my '07 919 is $6,900 , but they have the model listed as a CBR900R... Municipalities... Sheesh. I had a similar issue when adding the bike to my insurance policy--Progressive had no idea what model designation to assign. Even with the VIN, they wanted to call it a CBR...

no it probably isn't as high as the sales tax. i know on cars in VA it was like 100-300 depending on the car. then they worked to repeal it. only anything over the first $20k in value was taxed.

cb900f2 is what you have NOT a CBR under any circumstances !!

insurance companies have outsourced to call centers that only know what's on the screen in front of them....oh capitalism, gotta love it

Mass has a yearly registration fee and excise tax based on estimated value of bike. The thing that kills you in Mass is the insurance! It especially sucks when you have to register, get an inspection, and pay insurance on all bieks you want to ride on the road. Don't ask me my total bill it's insane!

It's better to have loved and lost than live with the psycho for life!

Mine was $260 total for the four streetbikes. That's tags and taxes.

I'm going to try and call tomorrow on the F3.
