You're kind of right I guess, as much as I love the 919 and enjoy Gin's bikes, the FJR is a whole different class of machine. I was trying to come up with some analogy to describe it, best I could do was comparing it to a fine sports coupe like a BMW 6 Series. Fast, powerful, luxurious accomodations for two, yet competent and agile, and can take off on a high speed cross country trip without even thinking twice about it.
I enjoyed seeing and feeling the size and weight differentials as I moved the bikes around. FJR=582lbs, 919=427lbs, 599=401lbs, Vulcan 500=439lbs. The FJR feels every bit of its listed weight, my 919 has shed several pounds through aftermarket exhaust, rear sets, and CF fenders but still feels hefty, 599 also lost a bit with the exhaust and has always felt much lighter than the 919, Vulcan seems less heavy because of its low center of gravity. I'd also never noticed how big the Vulcan's front wheel was in a side by side comparison.
Which reminds me, as I rode the FJR home from Michigan, I saw three (3) Harleys broken down along the roadside. Two guys on cell phones with their women sitting in the ditch looking bored, one old hairy dude diving in with tools, bike torn all apart right on the shoulder. I've never experienced that with any of my Japanese bikes....of course I've never had a KLR either...sorry Ridge!
Nice looking line up Sbeau. I'll have to get the family picture soon too. Currently the stable consists of my brother's 919, Dad's ST1300, step dad's Shadow Spirit 1100, and soon to be my CBR. I guess all we'll lack then is the dirt bike, and I'm trying to fix that.
