A little ride? Nope.

I have a rare weekend where I'm not expected anywhere at all. I wanted to take the 10R out, but I have been remiss on my maintenance. I've gotta change oil and filter, pull the rear wheel and completely service the chain, degrease all her privates and give her a thorough manicure. I expect this to take 3 hours to do right. The KLR is in the same shape, plus she needs a new skin in the front.

I guess I better get going. I'd have started earlier, but I've been cleaning the house with the two boys all morning, and now that Mom is up, she's taking the lead.

Oh.........................................I got fleas in the area rug in the garage.

Well, near four hours and the bike is still not clean, but it is degreased, lubed and chain slicked. I'll finish her up in the AM and take a ride by Cold Springs Tavern. She's gonna be mighty pretty.

Yesterday I was looking at the KLR, it's dirty.
For the first time ever owning a bike I just smiled, thinking yep it's dirty.

I saw several KLR's in Iowa, was thinking if I ever move back there for a life of organic gardening and peaceful living that I'd have to get one.

Bigdaa, don't think I've ever seen pics of your 10R, got any?

I haven't cleaned my chain since I got the bike two years ago. I don't want to penetrate the protective layer of grease and grime.

I just haven't had any more instances again. It's got me baffled. Bike whistles (from the fuel pump I gather). Runs and runs and runs and runs and runs. It just keeps running. I give her redline now and then and she eats it up like a hungry kitten. Funny, I took a look at the front brake pads I got. They are stock. I have the 33,000 miles on her and there is an amazing amount of material left on all pads. I just don't get it. How can these things last so damn long?

Maybe you were thinking like me, hope no one really does but you now what i mean

I couldn't figure that out as well, cause i had always had to change pads on my cars so much to keep them in good working shape, but these bikes don't weight even close to what a car does but yet have similar pad size so they should last longer!!

I'm sure someone will chime in that really knows but thats my back yard mechanic coming out.

will you stop posting pictures of that thing you make me want one!!!

4hrs.

Bigdaas patented chain-cleaning process has more dips than chrome plating.

Then he dissects each O-ring individually.

True story.

I was looking over stuff at Kawasaki when I ordered the KLR replacement parts. Talked with one of the sales guys. He wants to outfit a KLR for riding up to Alaska. I gave him many a tip on how to make it a great adventure ride. First thing I told him was to get the 1 tooth up on the countershaft sprocket. That is definitely the number one fix.

Said to the guy I wouldn't mind 'slowing things down a bit' by stepping onto a 14, being it is roomy as a living room couch compared to my 10r. I said I don't know when that might be cause this 10 just keeps chopping along like the Texas Chainsaw Masacre pig faced dood.

The bottom line is that the motor rocks. It's not overly smooth, it has more reverberations than a high school band, but the damn thing runs and runs and runs and runs and runs and runs awful damn hard. I have never had a bike or rode any other bike that the motor impressed me like this bad chicky. Honest to God truth, and that comes from a die hard Honda guy.

I hear yah Dave. People tend to sell Kawi. short. My riding bud. and a member here has a 1974 Kawi. Z1. The bike is like the Engerizer bunny, it has never been apart except for routine maintenance. Dead battery -No problem. A kick or 2 and she fires right up.

I got an advertisement in the mail last week and I thought of you Dave. 2007 brand new 10r for $7499!

I almost crapped myself...

Had I not written my life savings off to my company for a lousy few pieces of paper, I would be riding a 10r this week!

$7499!!!!!! Are you nuts?

Mid, I had to read the price twice, just to make sure there was a damn good reason for the shLt in my shorts.

How come you didn't sell a kid or something or someone else?
