Honestly, if you already got a nekked and have 8 grand burning a hole in your pocket, I wouldn't buy either. I'd either get a nice DRZ and Sumo it or buy a cruiser, which you actually could travel long distances on with little fan fare. You can find 2007 VT1100's all day long for around 4500 bucks on cycletrader. Add a windshield and some travel friendly accessories... Saddlebags, some nice gear for colder riding when necessary, hell even a radio... Shit, that is the ticket, and you will still have some cash left over. The hornet is awesome for knocking around, twisting things up, and just fun driving, and I love it for that, but when you get out on the highway it will beat you to fucking death at anything over 75, unless you kit it out like Ken has, but if you are just going to be doing some straight up traveling, and not going off on trails, I'd take a cruiser any time. Making the Hornet, or VFR or anything other than a cruiser comfortable takes some work, and to me I like the idea of leaving my Hornet all nekked, and having something else with windows, luggage, and a cup holder.
just my $.02 though
