Why 919?

Why is it that so many 919 rider have accumulated here on WT and Fireblades.org? Don't get me wrong, this seems like a great forum, but a guy would think there are enough of us to start our own community. Looks like a lot of the other attempts have failed.

Anyway, just opening the hole in my head.

The site obviously has the technical and rider base to support the 919 owner better than any out there. LDH linked a lot of people with 919s here thru his site, and MisterMike did a good job of building a Helpful Topics area for 919 owners. You don't have to weed thru tons of threads about things non-related, and the crowd demographics are similar. For the most part the bike has a more mature ownership than the typical sportbike oriented website. This isn't the place to find out how to perform the latest stunt, which neon light kit will flash red or blue, or which headlight is best for a streetfighter conversion on a 1000RR. Nothing wrong with any of those, it's just not here. What is here is good info on technical questions about the bike, not a fly by answer that steers someone in the wrong direction.

What makes it so well matched for Hornet owners can also be it's biggest downfall. The bike is out of production so the new members are ones who have bought a used machine. Once people sell the machine they may chose to move on seeing nothing of interest to stay for. There are a lot of lukers who just want to see the information but find nothing worth posting about. IMO, one thiing that will help that is when Honda finally brings something to the US that has the same draw that the 9er had. The new ownership that recently took over should help things also. We lost a lot of long time, good people who weren't 919 owners due to the previous owner having control freak issues. That has now changed.

I think the Hornet's Nest was probably the biggest 919 only community, but it was overseas and I think they went away. Like Jim said, LDH directed a lot of people here from 919.org and due to that and some incredibly outstanding membership, this place really became a good hangout for us. I recently joined fireblades because I saw the naked bike section but it doesn't seem as busy as it is here. They accumulated a bunch of 919 riders because they are a Honda forum, they have a naked section. Logical fit.

I don't really do the forum thing much other than here and maybe 1 or 2 other places so I don't have a lot of experience, but I don't think dedicated bike forums stay that way. It's too restricted. Half the guys and girls here who don't ride 919's used to, but they stayed here anyway. I think you will get that no matter what.

Being that the bike was never that popular to begin with and has been out of production for years, I don't think we could support a dedicated 919 forum. The membership would be tiny and the topics would be boring. Bigdaa rides a ZX-10, but who else would I talk about guns with?

I like variety.

Quite correct sir !
My Webster's says the same thing as yours.
No such word.
I think he might have meant some derivative of "syncopate", as in syncopator or syncopation.
But I can't tell the context in which he used the word, so maybe it's yet another word or word derivative that he intended.

No, he just added an "n" to the word he was looking for: "sycophantic"

Who is this new owner you speak of? Did UJM finally buy the site?

Andy is his name. I think we are scheduled to speak by phone tonight or tomorow. The recent downtime was a server move and the site now belongs to him. Stay tuned.

This website is like the Dieselplace website I frequent, it is Dieselplace, but is more driven by the Duramax bunch than other diesels. Sure there are other Brand owners on the site, but, well you get the picture. I found this website after being on Fireblades, and since have forgotten my password to that website since this place has all to offer that I am looking for.

And like the title says "That you ride is more important than what you ride" And by looking at my list of bikes that I own, I live by that!

I Can and will ride anything!
Bikes I own:
New addition 1978 CB750Four
2006 919
1994 home built springer
1984 KLR 600
1953 Servi-car (I gotta get this put back together)
1942 WLA (Gotta finish this one as well)
1985 Honda 200M ATC
1985 Honda ATC 70
1997 Yamaha Big Bear 350 4X4 ATV
Early 1984 Ironhead Sporty (Wife has laid claim to this bike)
1986 Sporty that I am putting a ironhead engine into

Apart from the odd blow-up here and there, this is one of the more mature and levelheaded forums. There are some pretty venomous, childish sites out there that is really unpleasant to spend any time on (so I don't).

Fair enough I like the site, I was just curious. Of all the mods I've done to my bike, F3/900RR wheels, etc., I found all of the info between here and Fireblades.

Glad to be a member

(and yes, he added an N to Sycophantic )

Do fuel tanks ever pop up for sale? They're the first part to get damage in a crash.

they come up occasionally on Ebay...mostly in pre-damaged condition, though.

Granted it's geared more towards the 599, (919's little brother) but Honda599.com is a great site. Warning, most guys there are very straight to the point. it's slowly building a good 919 base. A small community of people that understand that a joke is just that, a joke. Something my fellow 919 riders may want to check out...

I went to the Honda599.com website and it is a VERY small group of 919 owners. Maybe they should come over here and feel some more love. There have only been 12 threads started for the year so far. Great site if you’re a Hornet 600 owner.

I'll agree, there is a very small 919 section over there, but you probably wont find a tighter group of people (forum based that is) ...

Bleh, I have a damaged one coming up for sale as soon as I get the new one on. $700 for tank and tail piece 3 days after getting the bike on the road.

I'm from 599.com and you 9ers don't just have to post in the 9er section there. Jus' sayin.. Heck, the way peeps have been selling off and buying different bikes it's not quite 599.com anymore. There are at least a quad of Veefers, a bunch of Speed Trips, a Z1000, Buells, and CBRs. But it is definitely a great place to hang. I tend to lurk here more than anything, but i will post more if lil bro 599 is welcome. A year ago when i was hanging around here a little, it seemed to be a bit nasty and political. But whatever.

Still a cool site, this wristtwisters.. And for the record, Hornets Nest is still quite active. hornetsnest.co.uk
