Question Who has had their helmet stolen?

I was reading all the helmet lock threads that are up right now, and got to thinking, for all the talk I don't actually know anyone that has had a helmet stolen off their bike. Jackets and other gear yes, but no helmets... who here has had a helmet stolen off their bike?

I take my helmet with me unless I am very comfortable with where I'm parking (home, work, or maybe a friends house).

Never had one stolen.
Had a bike stolen many years ago... that was annoying!

I leave my helmet on my peg almost everywhere, and it has never been taken . . . every once and a while someone I know takes it and watches me get worried for a minute from a distance away before they walk over and laugh at me, but nobody serious has stolen it.

I usually take mine with me when I stop. My friend however had his month old Shoei helmet taken off his BMW GS about a year ago. A few weeks after it went missing he saw a group of guys with a helmet that looked suspiciously like his sitting in Boston Common. He went up to them and was able to identify it by a surface scuff on the back. After they exchanged some "kind words" the guy with his helmet gave it back. Luckily my friend is a pretty big guy.

So I think it depends on where you live/park and if you are willing to pay for a new helmet. I'll probably get a helmet lock for mine eventually but other things take precedent right now.

He should have smacked him with it before he walked away.
