Moved the ZX-10 to the lift in the garage for some love. I really don't ride it much anymore in fact the last time I rode it was the first time in 9 months that I had been on ANY motorcycle on the track, but during that outing I was able to test a new valve spec on the TTX-GP that I liked so with that I am going to make the wheelbase a little longer and the gearing a bit shorter to see if I can get just a little more drive out

Yeah bees have been quiet. Probably why my hornet is in a thousand pieces. Too much time on my hands.
I did a lap around the hives today on the DRz. Lots of activity and loads of pollen coming in. Looks like my holiday will be over soon.
Nice weather forecast for tomorrow and my workshop heater has arrived so will paint the hornet engine tomorrow...f**k!

Horsepower is of no use unless your tires are in contact with the ground. I had to look up what a TTX-GP is. That looks expeeeensive! A well set up suspention is a wonderful thing.

Chevy always made decent looking trucks, but how square fender wells ever made it out of a committee, is beyond me. I think some bean counter figured they could save a dime's worth of metal with those goofy looking square fender wells. The newest Chevys have a round fender wells, which I think look a lot better. I'll bet the die hard Chevy guys hate the round ones.

Which old Honda is that?

Finally painted the engine today.
Turned out awesome. YAY!!!
I shouldn't have been so scared.
"Ghosted" on a couple of coats followed by a medium wet coat. Thanks Kiwi.
Almost two cans of colour and a full can of clear coat. Cast coat iron and a satin clear. It's a shade darker than stock but my only choices were slightly darker or slightly lighter. Besides it suits the gloomy matt black look I'm going for.
Once it's dry I'll finish my valve clearance adjustments. Got to remove inlet cam shafts etc. While that's happening I'll paint the valve cover.
Then it'll be time to put it all back together.

Turns out my paint job isn't so awesome.
In my excitement I've forgotten about the oil filler cap. I've painted it. Completely. Whoops.

You don't have that protective SS spring around the coolant hose? I thought all 919's came with that.

Anyways, looking awesome. I scratched the crap out of my side cover when I had the tank 1/2 off while filling the coolant. Looked at it afterwards and was pissed. One more cosmetic thing I need to fix someday. Mine's starting to look like it's been thru a battle field, but she's got 10,000 extra miles on her just this season alone.

Haha... the spring protection thingy is on. I reckon what your lookin at are the aftermarket crash bars that are fitted to my 919.

Stripped off all the masking tape and started to put the old girl back together.
I've also cleaned up the headers with toilet cleaner then green scotch Brite. Painted the mounting collars with a high temp paint called Pot Belly black. I've used it on my dirt bike headers for years.

I'm super pleased with the outcome.
Very glad I went to all the effort. I found several small issue stripping the bike down, now sorted and the original paint really needed attention. Honda's paint job on the sides of the engine was great, held up well for 17yrs. The paint at the back was very thin and powdery. The front was no better. Plenty of stone chips in the front and some corrosion lifting paint at the front and back.

After painting the engine and valve clearance work I finally got the bike back together and full of fluids.
Bike started up immediately and idled smoothly. I love this bike.

Thanks mate.
I've had a few weeks of riding and the paint is now fully baked. None lifted.
I'm as happy as a pig in poo.
When putting the bike back together was going to use the ratchet strap to pull the throttle body/airbox onto the engine. But it all pushed on by hand real easy. I got new boots so that would've helped.
