Waves

I just purchased a 2010 Jeep Wrangler. Great vehicle so far, buried it to the frame in mud and pulled out now problem. This thing is definately going to get me with the mod bug. I am determined to get a tire on top of this old tree stump in my yard. Lift kit wheels etc.

Anyway on to the jeep wave part:

When I first left the lot I saw someone wave at me. Thinking hmm, they must think I was someone else.
Then later traveling back home, I get one of these . That's when it dawned on me. It must be a jeep thing that I didn't understand. With about a week behind the wheel I have come to realize Jeeper's enjoy acknowledging other jeepers no matter how stock they may be. It's like I joined a club.

While I enjoy my jeep I have no want or need to be classified because of my jeep.

Now I am starting to understand why some people don't wave on bikes. Just because you own one doesn't mean you want to be friends with every other douche that owns one too (Present company excluded).

taking it a little personal aren't you? I liked it when I got my first Jeep wave. Thought it was pretty cool and a nice thing to do. Just too bad we can't extend it beyond the Jeep and motorcycle crowd to the rest of the world. Perhaps we would all be a little better off if more people waved and treated each other with some genuine kindness and acceptance...

agreed, but like I said I got the wave then the finger. I think the part I take personally is most people wave and expect it back. It is not really genuine kindness if your expecting something from your actions.

if you think they all wave to you know just start moding that thing
though i dont have that problem i drive a xterra, though it is more capable than most jeeps are there it does not have that whole "its a jeep thing" going for it, mostly because soccer moms by them, well they will be buying 4 door wranglers too so......
anyways once i start modding i am sure i will even get the waves from the wrangles too. well enjoy getting your jeep stuck errr i mean going mudding

I always thought it was just the guys in the CJ's (Wranglers)

It's not the rest of the douchebags in the utes is it?

Mostly wranglers, but I have been waved at by the driver of a Compass, that wave was more like this....

its a shame that all the owners of the new body wranglers (JK) really ruined the wave and the brand image. Wranglers have now moved into harley territory, everyone has to have one just cause other people will think they are cool. unfortunately, i refuse to wave at JK drivers when i had my YJ and even now in my TJ

I think what he is referring to is the wider appeal of the JK's platform. With four doors, it has attracted all of those people that may have wanted a Wrangler but were unwilling to live with only 2 doors. Soccer moms, urbanites, etc are buying them for the image, rather than the function. There are still the hardcore Jeep owners with unlimited JK's that wheel them, just that their ratio is decreasing at a much faster rate now. Many Harley owners have followed the same path with buying for image, rather than function. Basic marketing and economics, try to market your product so that it appeals to the widest demographic possible and, hopefully, watch the profits roll in. Now the Jeep wave doesn't hold as much value with the new owners because they don't get the meaning behind it, thus no reciprocation, or in your case a flip-off leading to irritation about the whole thing.

I love my TJ unlimited and I have wanted one since they were announced back in '04. Timing being what it was, and the cost of a Rubicon Unlimited made it an unrealized dream until last September. Bonus with the 2 door unlimited is that my M-I-L can't ride with us any more...

Thanks for the insight definitely helped.

As for the JK issue I think I can see where its coming from. While I agree the 4doors can have that soccer mom appeal. I have seen some crazy 4 doors and some crazy wheelin since getting my 2door sport.

Being raised in a somewhat country/farm area. I think I see what jeeps can be alot more and the wave is very present. I was just unucustomed to it initially as I was when I first swung my leg over a bike.
