Tire damage!

Yesterday I went over to Mtnceguy's house to do some maintenance. I changed the oil, and changed the plugs...I on't know why you all bitch about #3 so much, just use a wobbly extension and it comes right out! Total time spent on the plug swap was under ten minutes!

Anyway... on the way there, I hit something on the road while cruising through the city on the interstate. I didn't see anything, and it took me by suprise. I hit it with my front tire, and it felt like hitting a rock. It jounced my front tire over a few inches and there was a "pop" noise like when you glance off of a rock and it goes shooting off the road. everything felt fine, so I kept going for the last couple miles. (it turns out it was probably a big bolt or screw)

After getting to Mtnceguy's place, getting my 9er up on stands and changing th oil I glanced at my rear hugger...and it looked strange. on closer look, it was wrecked! then I noticed that the rear tire was flat, too! Dammit, that tire only had about 2000 miles on it! it is a big ragged hole, too, when I tried the sticky string patch method, the patch didn't hold worth a damn. So, off we went to the MC shop, I bought a new back tire and we went back and mounted it up on the bike.

All in all I think I'm lucky I didn't have a complete blowout, have a bad wreck or get stranded on the road a few hundred miles from home. My hugger is pretty wrecked...It's carbon fiber and I've never seen one like it, so I don't know where I can get a replacement...does it look familiar to anybody?

.

Well, fire the engines! Spur this iron space-pony on!
