Several motorcycles involved in crash in Arizona
(AP) –
PHOENIX — Several motorcycles have been involved in a crash with a garbage truck on the northern edge of Phoenix that has left at least three people dead and several others seriously injured.

Phoenix Fire Department Deputy Chief Frank Salomon says six patients are in critical condition and two were airlifted to a hospital. Salomon says one of the injured is a Phoenix firefighter. His condition is not known.

Jarrod Cook, a worker at the nearby Ketzal Mexican Grill, says several motorcycles are wedged underneath the truck.

The accident occurred Thursday afternoon in the area of 27th Avenue and the Carefree Highway, which was expected to be closed for several hours.

I think that is about the worst motorcycle tragedy I've ever heard of.

Accidents happen -

This is why we all need to be always checking our mirrors, at all times, even at stops....

Sad situation, without question.

+1! What a horrible murder, I wonder how much time the driver will get?
Since they were blocked by a car in front the only path was splitting lanes. If they paid attention and noticed the rear truck not slowing they'd have to act fast and cruisers are not docile nor narrow Them placing themselves multiple abreast and probably distracted by talking worked against them. When I'm a sitting duck stopped at a light I do not let my guard down until the barrier vehicle behind has stopped. Helpful tools of bright stoplights, modulator, and an airhorn, but first you have to be paying attention.

Confidence in our own riding abilities is one thing, but we must watch the other idiots around us. The government makes cages safer for the drivers but we haven't any choice than to watch our own asses!!!

The wife and I were in the truck and came upon a wreck this past SAT, and it happened we knew the victims, they were T-boned buy a little grey truck, I did not pay attention to the make, but they were on a Ultra Classic, and third in line to leave at a light, the truck said he never saw the red light and hit them.

Get this, THEY BOTH WALKED AWAY! I have a few friends who have been T-boned, and they either have Pins in thier legs, or stumps, so Praise the Lord this turned out OK.......

My condolences to the ones in this thread, sorry for the de-rail, but I wanted to interject some good news!

RE:

I got sandwiched just like that by a lumber truck. Same deal except I was in a Ford van. There were about 7 cars stopped at the light and the opposing lane were passing thru. We looked like a junk yard when he finished us off. He just didn't notice the cars were stopped. I was awarded $450 for my injuries, plus a new van, in 1968 a nice deal. But, I still have knee problems today. I can't imagine being on a bike at the time!
We had 2 more deaths here ( North La) this last month, new riders running off the road and hitting trees.
I read awhile back that the highest number of deaths were 50-60 yrs who could just now afford a bike so bought a HD or wanna be HD. I think it was Fred Rau at MN.
