Need Opinions, Please! 78 KZ650 4-Sale. Is this a good deal?

A local Seller, who's also a Kawasaki mechanic, is selling his '78 KZ650. I'm gonna look at it tomorrow (Wed) afternoon.
Here's the Description:
Quote:
not mine, listing for VERY good friend of mine. his name is Dave, one of the best mechanics in town, im sure he's worked on many of your bikes, and he is a great guy. ive ridden this bike and it FLYS! sounds like a WW1 fighter plane. does like 125+ mph, its a scream to ride, not shabby for a bike as old as i am. i figured someone here might appreciate it for what it is.

13,000 miles
Top end rebuilt at 12,000
Stage 3 Jet Kit, K&N Filter
new plugs, petcock, battery
fresh oil change
brakes rebuilt, runs perfect
all signals, lights, etc work perfect.
original paint.
owned and rebuilt by professional mechanic.
Here's pics:

He was asking $1500, but he now dropped it to $1300

What do you think? Anybody know much about this bike?

Top end rebuild at just 12k?

Flies? By todays standards, that thing is a slug. I'd be real surprised if that thing did an honest 125, stage 3 jet kit or not.

If it was a 1000, maybe. 650? I'll pass.

If you are looking for a cool late 70's bike the KZ 650 is a excellent choice. I would not mind owning one. Find out why the top end was rebuilt. Was it for a mechanical problem or was it strictly for added performance? Price wise it seems a little high but IMO everything is negotiable.

Buy it and turn it into a cafe racer.

Price seems high to me for a old low diplacement bike. I sold a 1980 KZ550 LTD for 700 or 800 & thought I got everything I could. It had 11 or 12k.

If it's in good shape and runs well, offer him a grand. Most of those era bikes are going for that or less. I usually find the old Honda CB's going for about $800 in good running condition, and this one looks to be in a little better shape.

Good luck!

Thanks for your inputs.

Yeah, it does seem like alot for a 650, now that I think about it. But the main reason I'm interested is I wanna build a Cafe Racer, and this looks like a great platform. I'm more interested in a CB750, but then this KZ came up.

I checked out some KZ650 clips off YouTube, and I love the sound of that motor!
