My Son bought a really nice 1999 919

919 is what l call it, which drives him nuts. Payback! Actually, it is a 1999 CBR 900RR. Yellow with black front end. He showed it to me virtually via FaceTime. I have not seen it person.

From what l have seen it is in extremely good shape for an old survivor. It has a few little scuffs from being moved around. Newish tires. Plastics and rubber is not dried out. Akropovic full system, re-jetted. He says it almost as responsive as Fuel Injection, and pulls hard.

It's nice to have something in common.

If anyone has any advice or old stories about the 1999 CBR900RR, l am all eyes.

Nice looking bike! A gut I rode with years ago had one; keep an eye on the cooling fan, he had a rock stuck in it and it overheated. Oh yea, keep the front wheel on the ground, I think they had issues with oil starvation.

From what I gather and have read, that smaller front wheel diameter is a bit twitchy to get used to. Seems the rake is also different. Overall though from your photo, he found a good survivor.

In 96, Honda changed the triple clamp off set by 5mm. Whatever that does for sure, l don't know, but l assume it calms the front end down some. He says it steers a little heavier than our 929. The last of the 900RRs were criticized for being a lot less sharp than the earlier ones. Almost a Sport/Tourer. And l am wondering: what's wrong with that?

Neither of us are much good at wheelies. So the oil starvation ought to be s non issue for us. Will keep an eye out for rocks in the fan.

He says the header is titanium.

I'll have it home in 5 weeks. I will ride it and know a lot more then.

My old Interceptor. They sure look like family members.

I think that front wheel on the 900rr is a 16" wheel....me thinks.
On the 919 it's a 17" wheel isn't it?

That's a good clean bike your son has got himself. And personally if he was my kid I'd be quietly happy that it's not black and is instead a bright color. Happy trails for your boy.

You should convert it to dual under tail exhaust. I hear the 919 headers are a direct swap.

He is stationed at Elgin AFB, in Florida. He won't ride it much down there. Too hot and muggy. He'll be home for a few weeks before they send him to Korea, for a year. I honestly doubt it will get ridden much, at least for the next year and a half, other than the 3 weeks that he will be home. He's 31. Several thousand miles under his belt on a 929. He's sharp and level headed. But I still worry about him.

I wonder if those things are buzzy at 5500 RPM like a 919?

LDH has tons of experience with those 900RRs.

I rode my 929 for the first time this year, today. That thing impresses me, still.

After a little research, and close observation, the '99 900RR seems to be an eclectic mix of body parts. The nose fairing is obviously out of place, but doesnt look bad. The tail piece appears to be off of a 98, as does the lower side fairings; hence, no white. Even if the nose fairing was yellow, l havent seen a combination of the big Honda wing on the side, but no white.

If it was mine, l would be tempted to have the nose fairing painted yellow, as it should be. But, it may be more interesting just the way it is.
