motorcycle exhausts

Just read this on Roadracingworld.com. (When I registered my 919 in CA, at the DMV, I had to lift up the gas tank to show them the emission control info.) It was kind of a hassle and then the guy wanted to see the engine # which was hard to read. He spent about 30 min. writing down info on the bike. Anyway, any thoughts on the article?

great..... i swear to god the fuckin hippie environmentalists of this state view all motorcycles as evil and the things that cause all the polution and destruction. Gorman CA OHV area had a good 40% of it blocked off due to some save the forest shit... and since jan 1 04 we cant convert our dirtbikes to street legal even though some can make 100mpg without problems.... and now they are trying to get into the street bike thing.

If they want to stop pollution go after the dudes rolling on coal in their diesel consumer trucks. But if they REALLY want to stop the pollution... just stop everyone from driving their cars.... cus motorcycles (dirt and street) produce hardly anything compared to the cars.

billions in deficit and they have nothing better to worry about, what a joke.

I Don't try to explain to people why I ride a motorcycle

They just voted on a bylaw here, only for the city of Edmonton, motorcycles are not allowed to be louder then 92 db, they say the equivalent of a launwmower. I still have my unmodified 919 exhaust, I bet it's more then 92 db???

But they don't do anything about the Civic's with tin can mufflers or diesel trucks with turbine engine exhausts???

gotta love it.... lets pic on the minority instead of the majority that way there wont be a bit uprising.... the dudes that run straight 5inch exhausts on their diesels are crazy loud.

There was a sticker on my bikes frame when I purchased it (since removed - I don't want daft stickers everywhere telling me stuff I should know before I ride!) that had a db rating - factory was 84 or 88 if I remember.

92 is a pretty acceptable exhaust noise - not enough to pee off the next doors but enough to hear it when riding. Expect a lot more noise restrictions in the future.

I have a 92 5L Thunderbird, 99 4L Explorer and my 919. When I get asked if I'm concerned about the environment I say of course that's why I don't fly.
