Insurance Totaled My 919 - Next Bike?

Looks like my 919 didn't fare as well as I thought it would after last Monday's collision and insurance totaled the bike. They're going to cut me a check for $5255 for the market value post $400 deductible. The figure does not include claims on aftermarket parts which I'm submitting today (~$1k for some pricey items including Yosh TRS exhaust, 599 headlight, Rizomas, levers, etc). If I keep the bike, I get $3.6K and salvage title minus several hundred for the storage cost accrued since last week.

I'm inclined to take the check and make claims on the aftermarket parts. The appraisal listed some parts I did not expect to see on the damage list including both wheels and the swingarm. The alternator also took a bad hit and now I'm not sure if the engine internals may have been damaged as well. The frame was not listed, but from the look of the slider on the left side in my last post, I'm not so sure.

I'm pretty open in terms of my next ride. I'm seriously considering a 06 Black VFR 800 for about $5K. There are tons of 600cc supersports or F4i's out there too for around the same price. For some time I have even been looking at a DRZ-400SM as a second bike for about $3.5K to see what the big deal is with supermotos.

I'm at a point where I just want to try riding everything. A big factor for me is that I will be moving back to NYC in a couple of months. The 919 would have been a great bike for the city and afternoon / weekend trips. If I get the VFR or SS, I'll have to worry about expensive damage from being backed into by cars or getting stolen. I imagine the DRZ would be a great bike for the street, fun up in the twisties upstate, and with the right tires be a great platform for me to get into dirt riding. The problem is that it would suck for the long trips I plan to take later next year.

What are you thoughts on bikes after the 919?

That's a pretty good deal from the insurance company considering the selling prices I've seen for 919's lately.

If I was you, I would look into the bike from this fairly recent thread - the guy might still have it and it is pretty close to you.

I have been thinking about a CBR1000, '08 or newer.

It'll be a while, though. The 919 is my ride for the foreseeable future.

Ok, been thinking about this myself if some unfortunate occurrence were to destroy my beloved 919. Right now, from what I can see, there is no bike (that I can afford) sold in the USA to suit me. The Brutale would do the trick but $20,000 is a couple too many zero's.

SO, if I had to replace her, I would have to build it. Below is a `07 CBR1000RR steetfightered. I love this bike. From what I could read, underneath the plastic, the 07 and newer bikes are nice and clean. To do this you would need a handlebar kit and a headlight kit. This guy used a 599 setup which looks very nice.

The only thing I can think of that would be better, is a VFR streetfightered. I don't even know if that has been done. Love the V4.

I don't think I can get the 599 headlight back at this point. Ronayers has it for ~$166.

sckill, i was in the same position as you were in not too long ago. i went ahead and bought another 919 that was in much better condition than mine was in, for about the same price as i paid the original, and split the difference in accessories or things unrelating to the bike (including savings account). seemed to work out well for me, and i got to help a fellow member in the process (or 3)

I like the CBR1000R minus the plastic - I'd add a few fancy covers etc to clean up the pipes and maybe the tank/frame area, but overall that is a clean looking ride. Yeah har!

No, a guy named Danny out in Long Island. Who hasn't responded to my follow up call yet so I don't know if I'm still going out tomorrow morning or not...

Are you suggesting I get in touch with this Steve in Clifton?

At a local dealer: '07 919, I'm sure they'll come down on price this time of year... I know people who are good friends with the owner, if you're interested let me know and I'll make some calls.

RMB - Thanks for the help. I PMed you.

It looks like getting a 2006 VFR for $5K is too good to be true. The one I saw today had a lot of scratches to the right side fairing with a poor touchup paint job, a bent rear brake pedal, a title with a pending lien, and a 2nd owner who probably didn't take care of the bike since he bought it in January.

I saw a brand new leftover 2006 blue CBR600F4i in a dealer today for $6,100 (excluding only tax). I'm very tempted - should I go for it?

I appreciate the help. I saw those on Craigslist, but I'm looking for an 06+ model. There were electrical recalls on the 02-05 models and the VTEC was tweaked on the 06+ models to smooth out the transition around 6400RPM.

Picked up a 2007 CBR600RR

After a lot of bike browsing over the weekend and seeing a few VFRs up close, I realized that the VFR is not for me right now. I think it's a very capable bike for the long haul, but it lacks a bit of fun and excitement factor. My primary motivation for finding one was practicality and to fill in the do-it-all bike spot taken by my 919.

On the other hand, seeing the CBR F4i made me excited to get back into riding. I have always wanted an SS and I found a good deal on a Blue/Silver 2007 CBR600RR with only 3.3K miles. The previous owner took care of it well and the bike is very clean. There were a lot of extras that came with it too, but some I'm going to sell off and replace with OEM parts. Extras include:

- Two Bros exhaust (-)
- Clear alternatives integrated tail light with fender eliminator (-)
- Flush mount signals (-)
- Stebel horn (+)
- Tinted windscreen (+)
- HID lights (+-)
- Frame and swingarm sliders (++)

The 2bros is too loud for my taste so the OEM is going back on. I'm also not a fan of low visibility integrated tail lights or flush mount signals so off they go. Finally, at risk of getting flamed into oblivion and sounding like a hypocrite after my previous posts on the subject, I'm keeping the HID lights until I have time to perform a proper HID projector retrofit during winter.

Taking care of registration and insurance this week. Hope to be back on the road by this weekend.

Nice find. My brother-in-law has that bike. If you didn't receive the OEM signals from the seller, search for them on 600rr.net and look for the 2009 and newer signals.

Perhaps one of the most striking changes to the VFR was that red was no longer a color option. The US and Canadian markets would only get Pearl Black (also known as Pearl Cosmic Black) and Pearl white, while Europe would get Pearl Black and Candy Dark Red (also known as Candy Glory Red, burgendy, or wine red).

Congrats on the new ride. Looks like it's in great condition. I like the Two Bros exhaust too for the looks anyway. Enjoy the ride!
