This is one of the things I love about being in America now. If you flew the George cross any time other than a sporting event or the Union Flag any time other than the Olympics or a royal anniversary, you'd be looked at as a xenophobic racist. It was fine to fly a St Andrews cross, the Welsh dragon if you were Scottish or Welsh, but to be proud of being English is seen as you being antagonistic.

There's my little rant for the morning. I'm proud to be a resident here, the father of a US citizen and will be applying for citizenship for myself in the 2nd half of the year.

Well Steev, IMHO I think you'll like being in America even more now that we have a leader who truly loves the country and the principles upon which it was founded. Seems that almost every country has a segment of its population who is on a crusade to tear itself down and to apologize for whatever level of greatness it has risen to. Screw that. I think that anybody who thinks it's racist or xenophobic fly their flag and to be proud of their country, must be in the wrong country. If you love what the United States traditionally stands for and want to promote and preserve all that makes it good, you're already a citizen and welcome. We'll take as many of those kind of immigrants we can get. And coming from one of the US's true allies in times of peace and in war, your transition should be a natural and relatively seamless one. Welcome.

Remember......assimilation NOT invasion is what this country was based on.
I love this country. It has given my family and I many many opportunities to work hard, make money, contribute back into society and simply become a productive and respectful member of this great land of ours.

God Bless America folks!.........May the flag and the Republic always reign supreme.
