Design my racebike contest

Some of you may know that I am racing in WERA next year. I will be racing as a novice on a 2005 SV650 in lightweight twins and maybe a few other classes.

In an effort to promote the site and boost someone's casino account, I have approached jetblast with the idea of a contest aimed at designing the paint and logos for my race bodywork. This is a blank slate. Brand new, untouched bodywork is on its way to me fresh from Hotbodies.

The rules are simple; using whatever photo editing program you have available:

1. The WristTwisters logo and web address must be visible and prominent.

2. Front and rear number plates must be yellow

3. The design must be simple enough for me to complete in my garage with standard spray paints. In other words, don't go nuts with extravagant lines and muliple color layers.

4. Your color palette is blue, grey, yellow, red, white and black. (The tank of the bike is blue, and it is NOT being repainted) You do not have to use all colors. Yellow for the number plates is the only mandatory color.

The designs will be narrowed down to the top five of my choice (if we get that many) and the final designs will be submitted to a vote of the members by poll.

The winner will receive a deposit of $10,000 in his/her casino account and the winning design will be painted by yours truly.

All entries must be made by January 12th and the poll will be posted on January 13th. My first race is in March, so that should be plenty of time to complete the project.

Good luck and may the best rider win!

Sorry, no. The color Blue is standard Suzuki blue.

Like this:

Here's the logo for placement on the new bodywork:

There are eight scheduled dates for WERA Mid-Atlantic in 2008. I will race in as many as my checkbook and schedule will allow.

yeah, that's where it gets interesting. Racing is STUPID expensive. you're also a lot more likely to crash.

I think that I'm going to still do some endurance racing with Greg...other then that, I'm not sure.

good luck. Start buying tires now. Pretty soon, you won't think in terms of currency, it will be "how many sets of tires will this job get me"

If DOT, get your best price, give me a jingle and let me see if I can help you in anyway.

Thanks for the offer. Honestly, I'll be racing whatever offers the most contingency money and fits my budget. I just ordered a set of Pirelli supercorsas and they weren't cheap, let me tell ya.

Unless jetblast says otherwise, I would rather stay with the original logo. He will be cutting the vinyl and choosing from new logo submissions will make it even more difficult.

2 colors

1. The closest blue you can find to match your tank
2. A dark metalic grey

The dark grey that I use for my lower is nice. Its made for auto wheels and its very durable. You dont clearcoat over it and when it gets chipped up and scratched you can touch it up very easily because its a semi-gloss which makes it very easy to blend the new coat into the old coat.

I suggest this type of easy maintenance paint for the front and lower because those are going to be the areas you want to touch up in the off seasons.

The blue you can clearcoat over and buff it to a high gloss shine, then put your main decals on the glossy blue. You'll wax the blue area occaisonally to keep it glossy.

The finish difference between the semi-gloss grey and gloss blue will make for a nice contrast.

Some black and silver auto pinstriping to go in between the blue and grey colors to cover where the paints meet and sharpen up the lines.

Some yellow vinyl for the number plates (or you can paint them) then more auto pinstriping around the number plates.

Only 2 colors to paint and it looks like it should be easy enough to mask-up (straight lines)

I'm a sponsor for Zack Courts riding for NHF Racing and I see what they end up spending their money on...yes tires first. New bike every other year at least (usually low mileage current model year used, often cosmetically wrecked). Race in a "spec" class that allows very limited or NO engine modifications, keep everything simple...including paint that almost definately will need to be repainted during the season. Get some spare body work all painted up. Spend your bike money on suspension first and suspension second.....suspension third. Do the paperwork for contingency money for your tires, leathers, helmet, boots any freakin company that will pay you for using their product or flying their sticker on the bike. Try to hook up with a tire rep that will give you race take-offs (will depend on what tires your class allows), but you can use them for practice anyway. Spare wheels are a plus....making friends with the tire reps that do at track tire/work/changes is a plus unless you want to spend a lot of time with a tire iron. Bring friends to the track....you'll want a hand...for a lot of things.
JohnnyB

PS. I'm "Clever Dog Racing" found on the sponsor page.

Yeah i recall that bit of instruction, but i wanted show what it could look like in red. I think Red stands out more on the track than dark blue. Plus dark and light colored stickers can be used on red, where as dark blue won't work with dark color stickers.

That's some clever advise from a clever dog, it should be in bold, well most of it. I think you'll will find that once you start racing the important things will jump out at you pretty quick, and how your bike looks isn't one of them. Of course if you have the money, or a sponsor that does then it's a different story. Be prepared, fill out all contingency and HAVE FUN!

I'm sure you checked out all options thoroughly, so why did you choose WERA?

And don't forget to HAVE FUN!

How about blue top, red lower and keep the white masking swoosh thingy.

RC90, I'd be glad to support MotoLube if you send me some stickers and free tires...

Thanks Greg and JohnnyB. I chose WERA simply because my cousin and friends are already racing there. We may dabble in CCS for a race or two, but primary time will be spent in WERA.

As for contingency, I've already given it much thought and consideration when I bought parts. Thanks for the reminder.
