9/11 Memorial Ride

http://www.torchesacrossamerica.com/

Now I don't normally do superslab rides as I don't like crowds and would prefer just a couple close and trusted riding friends. I mean c'mon....anyone can set a speed and run in a straight line for hours on end (quite boring). But this is something different and I plan on doing it!

Things have not been good for quite awhile and I need something to clear my head. This I feel, will be the best way to do it.

9/11 is something that I will never forget for more reasons than I care to share at this juncture, but taking a ride to honor those that passed both the victim's and the heros is something I feel I need to do. We can never forget what happened that fateful day and we must never let our guard down in the future. You realize that we MUST protect our freedom for our families and future generations.

This particular ride that I'll be joining will be a closed highway ride, by that I mean that I-80 will be closed to all traffic East bound from Tramontin NJ to I-280 through the Holland Tunnel to the Twin Towers site in Lower Manhatten. All bikes will be escorted by State police, fire officials and the military. As of right now they are expecting upwards of 4000 bikes.

All I'm asking from everyone on this site is to go home tonight, hug your kids and loved ones because in a fleeting moment things can change. Count your blessing that neither you nor your loved ones were there that fateful day (if they were, you have my eternal condolences) when our lives changed forever. DO NOT take for granted the smile on your spouses face, the laughter your children emit, a helping hand of a friend, the nod of a head that a co-worker makes when you pass them in the hall way. Remember the heros that died that day and the heros that today still put their lives on the line for our freedom here at home and abroad.

God Bless all of you guys and be safe.

Don't forget to take the camera and make a ride report out of it.

Nuts. Wish I had known about this earlier, I'd have taken the day off. They're in my area today, and I'd ride even though it's raining...

My goal is simple. It is a complete understanding of the universe, why it is as it is and why it exists at all.

Not sure if they have a memorial with names on it yet.
But if they do... visit the name of my brother in law. Daniel Nolan, say hello for me.

I don't think that part of it will be finished for awhile. I go by the site every day and they are just getting started on the Freedom Tower. In any case Johnny, I will say hello for you.

Dan Noland

Not to start politics, but, those 3500 people who were killed had about 20,000 family members. And all these people had 2-300,000 friends. Any one who says those people never did anything to me is totally hid in the sand.
My hat is off to all families who suffered loss that day, and since then also.
My baby boy has served 5 tours over there, and I love him for protecting my freedom.

Thank you dadogs! Your words were beautifully spoken and so very true. This was a perfect thing for me to read today. I've always felt it's important to say things and share things, because you never know the impact your words may have on another person. This had an impact on me today...I have had a really horrible day from a personal standpoint and reading your words totally shot me back to reality in forcing me to remember that things can always be worse. I lost a very close friend in 9/11 so I'm among all of us that will clearly never forget that day. I honestly try to live every day of my life as if it were the last and make efforts to have a positive impact in some way on people I encounter on a daily basis. Thank you for reminding me of the importance of not taking one single second of your life for granted. I'm honored that you'll be participating in this and I think the whole concept is absolutely awesome.

Being a NY resident....yeah, a whole lot of people up here are related to, or knew someone that got killed that day.....and across the whole country people are involved with soldiers and others doing what they can to see that it never happens again.
And so far they've been very successful in that job.
