This past weekend I rode about 100 miles west up to the Blue Ridge Mountains from where I live in Richmond, VA. I had some buddies meet me up there in their cars and we stayed at Wintergreen at my buddy Mitch's condo. The ride up was awesome and the weather was perfect.
Saturday we drank a bunch of beers and hung around the house. That night we went to Devil's Backbone Brewing Co. for dinner and more beers. That place is awesome! Anyone who likes good beer and food should check it out their next time passing through. It's only 2 or so miles from the Blue Ridge Parkway.
Sunday we woke up and had breakfast and my friend Kelly and I went on a quick 2 mile hike. Then we packed up and I took off to Sherando Lake in the George Washington National Park. I went by way of Reeds Gap over the BRP. It's funny because the last time I went over that pass was as a cyclist in the Tour of VA. This time I was going a lot faster, was in a lot less pain, and wasen't following some little 130 lb. mexican climbers.
I met up with some buddies who were at the park mountain biking and we swam and chilled in the sun. I also reccomend Sherando Lake for swimming, grilling, etc. It's a great spot.
After that we grabbed food in Charlottesville and I blasted home 85-90 mph the whole way . Good weekend and a good way to start the work week. (Photos below)
I live about 15 miles from the BRP. I try to ride it every chance I get. The Devils Backbone Brewery is great and we try to camp a Sherando Lake often. I work as a Technology Coordinator for the City of Harrisonburg. Pay is decent but the benefits and time off are awesome. I get a lot of holidays off that the wife doesn't which leads to lots of fun bike trips.
