Took a trip to Shenandoah today

It was too nice this morning not to take a ride up to Skyline Drive in Shenandoah National Park. The roads were clear, traffic was light, and I managed to get some nice shots I was able to stitch into a few panoramas once I got back home:

Nice shots. I love riding up there. Especially when the weather gets hot here.

Did just that on the way home from Mt.Airy, NC two weeks ago. Got on from US 33, picked up my Senior Park Pass, and exited to stay overnight in New Market, Va. A nice leisurely ride after 1 day on the slab and three more in the Smokey Mountains. Had an outstanding lunch while up on the Ridge.

I was actually a little surprised to see it as empty as it was once I got on Skyline. I only saw one big group of cruisers and just a few people by themselves or in very small groups on bikes. I think I saw more bicyclists than anything else on the road yesterday!

I rode the Parkway yesterday with some friends and it was great. We were on our way back from Marion. Rode down "The Back of the Dragon" RT 16 from Marion, VA to Tazwell, Va. Based on our experience, stay on the east side of 81. The roads on the west side are covered in gravel in the corners. I had an unfortunate event on a switchback on route 623 coming out of Burkes Garden, VA. There was a busted up patch of assault with a bunch of gravel in it. Came around the blind corner full lean. Front tire hit it and washed out. I was only going about 20mph so it slide about 2 ft. Not a lot of damage and my gear saved my butt. Stay safe out there and wear your gear no matter how hot it is. I'll provide some pic in a new thread once I get everything together.
