The dumb things we talk ourselves into at Midnight...

Tomorrow morning Simpson and I are heading off to ride "Lee's Retreat."
Lee's Retreat

The first stop is about an hour and 15 minutes from Virignia Beach and then has 26 more stops. It is a nice historical trail through Rural Virginia. We are taking cameras and learnin a bit of history.

The weather forecast looks good, so should be good fun. Will post pictures upon our return.

Now that sounds like a sweet ride....

Freezing rain here... and I am sure snow to follow if it ever cools down enough...

Enjoy!

I cannot express to you how little justice the pics do. The last one Simpson took. I think it really captures that we were riding in old plantation country.

We tried to cover way too much ground in one day. All in all from my house to do the entire trip and return home was 12 hours. We skipped a lot of scenic stops and rushed through the Surrender Grounds.

The cop from the other thread lives about 30 minutes from the Surrender grounds and I am sure if I ask real nice, he would let some of us camp on his 35+ acres if we wanted to set up a base camp out there and discover it all.

Also, bear creek state park is right there, twin lakes park is right there, sailor's creek park is also right there. For the adventure guys, the are hundreds of acres of state forrest with fire roads waiting to be ridden. For everyone else, the Appommattox River, Nottoway River, etc....

I need to spend more time out there this up coming summer.

Battle of High BridgeTHis picture is really neat to me.

If you look closely, you can see there are actually train tracks just above the tree line.

Hey Mike, this may be a dumb question but is there anywhere to go rafting near there? That's what we are looking to do around Memorial Day. Ride a day, raft a day, then ride a day.

Lots of lazy rivers. You could float all day.

More inclined canoe rentals.

For some ideas right near the retreat.

Its funny to look back and see how much my riding gear sucked few years ago.

Jacket without CE protectors
Gloves with no real protection
Regular boots etc

I could afford to get a new bike, powercommmander and slip-ons but could not get good gear...
What a dope.

Re-reading this thread makes me want to go back and do it again. But this time with a small AM radio (to listen to the broadcasts) and also get a hotel so it can have the time necessary to take it in by making it a two day vs one day ride. Maybe a good trip for this fall.... I dunno

Screw good gear man, if you think you need it, get it, but don't let peer pressure make you wear it.

Sure, sometimes I'll wear a jacket and even boots, but you know what, some of the guys I know might as well be driving a fricking car they were so much gear.

And other guys, I swear they are true metromotorsexuals, they look fricking pretty when they ride in their logo full fit race suits - on the street.

And let's not even get started in the leather chaps and vest crowd, well, you know, to each their own!

Sorry....
