I cannot express to you how little justice the pics do. The last one Simpson took. I think it really captures that we were riding in old plantation country.
We tried to cover way too much ground in one day. All in all from my house to do the entire trip and return home was 12 hours. We skipped a lot of scenic stops and rushed through the Surrender Grounds.
The cop from the other thread lives about 30 minutes from the Surrender grounds and I am sure if I ask real nice, he would let some of us camp on his 35+ acres if we wanted to set up a base camp out there and discover it all.
Also, bear creek state park is right there, twin lakes park is right there, sailor's creek park is also right there. For the adventure guys, the are hundreds of acres of state forrest with fire roads waiting to be ridden. For everyone else, the Appommattox River, Nottoway River, etc....
I need to spend more time out there this up coming summer.
Re-reading this thread makes me want to go back and do it again. But this time with a small AM radio (to listen to the broadcasts) and also get a hotel so it can have the time necessary to take it in by making it a two day vs one day ride. Maybe a good trip for this fall.... I dunno
