TAIL OF THE DRAGON LABOR DAY WEEK?

Never been there, always wanted to go. Have some time off around Labor day and thinking about going.

How busy is it? And what to do and see?

All my friends are wimp's, would love to have some company if anyone could go.

That one particular road called the dragon is a tight technical road that be exhilarating when it's dry and clear out and at the same time downright scary when raining / dark out. The road attracts a ton of riders and motor enthusiasts. So much so that it can become a circus with too many cars/motorcycles trying to show off and crashing into each other or running off the road. I went on a weekday and it was great. Go on a long weekend and expect crowds and mobile roadblocks aka cruisers. Do the dragon at least once, but also check out all of the great roads around it too.

I would probably avoid a holiday weekend unless school is in session. I go yearly before the big rush and still find plenty of traffic on the weekend. During the week you might get a clean run. Outside of that I enjoy it a lot more on a weekday in the morning. There are a ton of great roads in the area to enjoy as well. What to do and see depends on what you want to do and see! Hit up either of the stores at the crossroads of time and get a locals perspective on what to do. I tend to ride during the day, and drink/ride fiddies at night while there, but I won't lie and pretend that I haven't considered fishing, camping, and hiking.

if you love your motorcycle, set it free.. if it comes back and hits you.. you highsided

Lots of cops and Harleys. Definitely go during the week. The only cops I saw down there was on the Dragon which is only one stretch of road about 11 miles long. In my opinion there are better roads around there. I really liked 28 after the tail. My next trip, hopefully soon, will probably be to the Snake. It's about 33 miles long and looks absolutely amazing from YouTube videos. http://www.421thesnake.com/

It's just a drop in the bucket

No need to focus solely on that road, unless it's a "bucket list" kind of thing...

I got a $269 speeding ticket for going 43mph on a rare straightish downhill section; with no intention of breaking the law.

As others have stated, avoid weekends and holidays.

There are dozens of other roads in the area that are just as much fun.
